Chapter 10: Californ-ia!

"Be good and always obey Aunt Cathy and be nice to Amy." Claire reminded Jenn before she boarded her plane.

"Mom, mom, I’ll be all right, Sara will you be OK?" Jenn asked looking at her treay-eyed stepsister.

"Yeah, I’ll miss you though, why do you have to leave now? School doesn’t start till two weeks." Sara sniffled looking at Jenn.

"I’ve got to get used to that change and all, you know that. Hey I’ll e-mail you when I get there OK?" Jenn said smiling even though she didn’t want to leave. The announcer said it was final boarding for her flight. She kissed both of them good-bye and boarded the plane.

----------------------------------

Jenn slept most of the way to California, she had heard of how jet lag affected people, so she caught up on the sleep. She was nervous as the plane descended into sunny California. She didn’t know what to expect. When she looked around after she exited the terminal she saw a sign that was decorated saying ‘Jenn Parting, welcome to Californ-ia!’ Jenn smiled as she walked up to her cousin Amy. Amy was taller than most fifteen-year-olds, with brown hair and bright green eyes.

"Jenn, its soooo coool to finally get to meet you!" Amy said hugging Jenn.

"Same here, where’s your mom?" Jenn asked as they walked to baggage claim.

"She’s at work, so she sent me! Oh and do you like my shirt?" She asked proudly displaying her Hanson tour T-shirt that she had bought when they were performing at the Hollywood Bowel.

"So I take it my mom told you something." Jenn said as her three suite cases came along the belt.

Amy grabbed a cart and said "Yeah, and your step-sister told me, you are like going out with IKE!"

"I am NOT! Where did she get that idea, he liked me, but I haven’t talked with him anyway, so tell me about yourself." Jenn said changing the subject as they got into a taxicab.

"Breaton Bay Estate’s, please." Amy said to the driver.

"You got it." He replied and the sped away.

--------------------------------------

"You are such a teenybopper!" Jenn remarked as they entered a development of large, expensive homes.

"I am not. 3267 Bay View is the house number." Amy continued "Just cause I love The Moffatts, you don’t even know who they are, and Hanson, does NOT qualify me as a teenybopper. I hate that name. It makes me shudder…….Ugh….." Amy said cringing.

"Teenybopper" Jenn giggled as Amy cringed.

"So how many pictures do you have?" Jenn prodded.

"250 of Hanson and 50 of Moffatts, its hard getting grandma Parting to get any, you know how they are, they never like leaving the house, so I buy it whenever I go up to Vancouver." Amy said. "Plus I like Pearl Jam, 311, and others, so I am not.. Not, that word!" Amy finished as the taxi stopped in front of her house.

Jenn and Amy got Jenn’s stuff out of the back of the cab, her other belongings had been shipped there earlier that week.

"Totals $25.30, ma’am" Amy paid the driver and started to walk up the driveway with one of Jenn’s bags.

"You live here?" Jenn asked gaping at the size of the house as she caught up with Amy.

"Yeah. Your room is the one with the deck outside, I have a smaller one in my room, but it faces the woods. Mom and I decided to clear out the junk that was in there and give the room to you." Amy said as she unlocked the door. The house was huge. Jenn was used to her small split-foyer home, not this large house that had two large floors. "C’MON I wanna show you your room." Amy said pulling Jenn and the three suite cases up the steps. Jenn loved the high ceilings and all the windows it had. They both dropped the suite cases at the top of the steps and raced down the hall to Jenn’s new room.

She walked in it, "Oh my God! Its huge, this like the size of my living room back home!" Jenn said looking around, seeing a large four post bed in the center, a fairly large desk and

her boxes that she had sent were scattered all over the room. Jenn walked out to the balcony; "I could take great shots here…." She mumbled to herself with a smile, This will be great. She thought as she followed Amy to her room.

"I’m right across the hall!" She said opening her door.

"Oh dear Lord!" Jenn murmmered seeing all these different bands on the walls, except there was a large portion of the wall had Hanson on it, including the giant life-sized one that they sold at the concert. Amy’s room was painted blue with matching carpet. "Uh-huh, not a teenybopper huh…." Jenn said with a smirk.

"I am not!" She protested. "Well maybe, but I still hate that word!"
