A deep feeling of sadness filled me
as I watched the sun start to set.
The beauty of the sun radiating
off of the deep, tranquil sea
made me think of
everything I had done
and all I had meant to do.
With seagulls calling and scurrying
off in the distance,
I heaved a great sigh,
and the smell of salt
filled my lungs,
lingering in my mouth,
as I slowly collapsed
onto the soft,cold, sand.
I then looked back up
into the sky,
amazed at the deep shades
of red, orange, and yellow
that shimmered off
of the captivating waters.
The beauty was too much
for me to bear.
Looking down,
I ran my finger through
the wet sand and drew
tiny circles,
smoothing out
each one,one
by one.
It was hard to believe
this was my last night here...
The summer had gone by so fast.
