EVERY time a learned and sometimes even a not so learned man shouts out "Eureka (I have found out) I have found out the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth about the woman" he is telling himself a ie, telling the world a lie, telling men who are dying to nkow the truth (about the woman) a lie, telling his genteration and the generations to come a lie. The truth is that no man has every understood a woman and the way the woman is growing more and more mysterious, one of the most beautiful mysteries of the world created by God, no man can ever unravel the mystery. (I can hear some woman say the same thing about man.) But there are more men who have never given up trying=a man like the internationally known, most controversial eighty pus painter Maqbool Fida Husain. He has been at it through his paintings which has taken the world by storm from time to time. He is trying it through the medium of cinema this time. He has taken Madhuri Dixit as his inspiration after seeing her Hum Aapke Hain Koun more than a hundred times and then taken off on a mission to find out more about the woman, a mission he wants to keep under wraps.....till he believes he has found or atleast almost found the truth. Husain has called his film Gaja Gamini (which means the drunken walk of the elephant). The film is being written and directed by Husain for producer Rakesh Nath (Rikku). He has already compelted two schedules on two sets built at Mehboob Studios and Rajkamal Studios. He will start shooting again in October and then shoot till the end till January 1999. Shabana Azmi, Naseerudin Shah, Madhuri Dixit (she plays the central character), Shilpa Shirodkar, Inder Kumar (he is cast opposite Madhuri), Farida Jalal, Tej Sapru, Dr Mohan Agashe and Ashish Vidyarthi play leading roles. The film introduces Kalpana Pandit and Raisa Husain (Husain's daughter.) Tom Alter and Sanjana Kapoor (Shashi Kapoor's daughter) make special appearances. Lyrics by Husain himself and Maya Govind, Music by Dr Bhupen Hazarika, choreography by Saroj Khan, art by Sharmishta Roy and cinematography by Ashok Mehta are other credits. Incidentally Naseer is playing the renowned painter Leonardo DA Vinci. Don't ask me what Da Vinci is doing in Gaja Gamini. It is questions like this that makes Gaja Gamini one of the most talked about films today.
