A 12 zwn gar o logoV tou qeou kai energhV kai tomwteroV uper pasan macairan distomon
For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword,

kai diiknoumenoV acri merismou yuchV kai pneumatoV armwn te kai muelwn
and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow,

kai kritikoV enqumhsewn kai ennoiwn kardiaV
and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

13 kai ouk estin ktisiV afanhV enwpion autou
And there is no creature hidden from His sight,

panta de gumna kai tetrachlismena toiV ofqalmoiV autou proV on hmin o logoV
but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.

B 14 econteV oun arcierea megan dielhluqota touV ouranouV 
Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,

ihsoun ton uion tou qeou kratwmen thV omologiaV
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.

C 15 ou gar ecomen arcierea mh dunamenon sumpaqhsai taiV asqeneiaiV hmwn
For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses,

 pepeirasmenon de kata panta kaq omoiothta cwriV amartiaV
 but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.

D 16 prosercwmeqa oun meta parrhsiaV tw qronw thV caritoV 
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, 

ina labwmen eleoV kai carin eurwmen eiV eukairon bohqeian
so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

E 5:1 paV gar arciereuV ex anqrwpwn lambanomenoV 
For every high priest taken from among men 

uper anqrwpwn kaqistatai ta proV ton qeon 
is appointed on behalf of men in things pertaining to God, 

ina prosferh dwra te kai qusiaV uper amartiwn
in order to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins;

2 metriopaqein dunamenoV toiV agnoousin kai planwmenoiV 
he can deal gently with the ignorant and misguided, 

epei kai autoV perikeitai asqeneian
since he himself also is beset with weakness;

F 3 kai di authn ofeilei  and because of it he is obligated 

kaqwV peri tou laou    as for the people, 

outwV kai peri autou   so also for himself.

prosferein peri amartiwn  to offer sacrifices for sins, 

G 4 kai ouc eautw tiV lambanei thn timhn
And no one takes the honor to himself, 
F* alla kaloumenoV upo tou qeou but receives it when he is called by God, 

kaqwsper kai aarwn  even as Aaron was.

5 outwV kai o cristoV   So also Christ 

ouc eauton edoxasen genhqhnai arcierea
did not glorify Himself so as to become a high priest,

but He who said to Him, "You are My Son, today I have begotten You";

6 kaqwV kai en eterw legei  just as He says also in another passage, 

su iereuV eiV ton aiwna kata thn taxin melcisedek
"You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek."

D* 7 oV en taiV hmeraiV thV sarkoV autou  In the days of His flesh, 

dehseiV te kai ikethriaV   both prayers and supplications 

proV ton dunamenon swzein auton ek qanatou 
to the One able to save Him from death, 

meta kraughV iscuraV kai dakruwn prosenegkaV
with loud crying and tears              He offered up 

C* kai eisakousqeiV apo thV eulabeiaV
and He was heard because of His piety.

8 kaiper wn uioV  Although He was a Son, 

emaqen af wn epaqen thn upakohn
He learned obedience from the things which He suffered.

B* 9 kai teleiwqeiV And having been made perfect, 

egeneto  pasin toiV upakouousin autw aitioV swthriaV aiwniou
He became to all those who obey Him the source of eternal salvation,

10 prosagoreuqeiV upo tou qeou arciereuV kata thn taxin melcisedek
being designated by God as a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

A* 11 peri ou poluV hmin o logoV  Concerning him we have much to say, 

kai dusermhneutoV legein epei nwqroi gegonate taiV akoaiV
and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.

12 kai gar ofeilonteV einai didaskaloi dia ton cronon 
For though by this time you ought to be teachers, 

palin creian ecete tou didaskein umaV tina ta stoiceia thV archV twn logiwn tou qeou 
you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God,

kai gegonate creian econteV galaktoV [kai] ou stereaV trofhV
and you have come to need milk and not solid food.

13 paV gar o metecwn galaktoV   For everyone who partakes only of milk 

apeiroV logou dikaiosunhV nhpioV gar estin
is not accustomed to the word of righteousness, for he is an infant.

14 teleiwn de estin h sterea trofh  But solid food is for the mature, 

twn dia thn exin ta aisqhthria gegumnasmena econtwn 
who because of practice have their senses trained 

proV diakrisin kalou te kai kakou   to discern good and evil.
