Divining From the Elements

When you understand that the elements contain the magical properties always, not just when you are spell casting, then you can learn to watch them for signs. Like weather systems, various magical forces move around all of us. When you learn to recognize them, you can use their innate energy to ‘power up’ your spells. Often times, it is the imbalance of the elements that results in a sudden influx one or more to recreate balance, whether you like it or not.
So what do I mean by listening to the elements? The elements are part of our everyday lives. The times when they call particular attention to themselves are especially telling. For example, if it has been raining frequently and the waters are rising in your backyard or basement, then the element of Water is in fluxing strongly in your life. Water represents wisdom. So the flooded basement means the elements are unbalanced around you and you need more wisdom in your life and magic.
The same is true of the other elements. If your stovetop catches Fire, change is coming. If the Wind screams as it whips around your home, creativity abounds. If you trip over a rock or get grass stains on your slacks, you need the stabilizing energy of Earth. Moreover, don’t forget the often-overlooked element of Spirit. Does it seem as though your house is haunted? You need to get in touch with your spiritual side.
Listen to the elements. When one calls your attention, ask yourself in what part of your life do you need to incorporate that element’s energy? Sometimes you can choose where to draw that element’s energy to work toward your goals. For example, if the Wind is bringing its creative energy into your environment, you can choose to channel that magic into the project you’re doing at work, to paint an inspired picture or maybe to aid in your redecorating.
When you learn to listen to the magic all around you and to channel it into your personal life and goals, then every day becomes a magical dance as you manifest your world.
