Tequila Sunrise was Mel's 13th film, and my favorite movie of all time. Released in 1988, Tequila Sunrise was backed by Warner Brothers Studios, and has since become a Warner Brothers Classic.
Tequila also stars Kurt Russel, Michelle Pfeiffer, J.T. Walsh, Raul Julia, and Gabriel Damon, who plays Cody McKussic.
Mel plays Dale McKussic, an ex-drug dealer who is having trouble quitting, because the business just doesn't want to quit him, not to mention his customers don't want to find someone new. The DEA wants to nail McKussic for past drug smuggling crimes, and to get McKussic to lead them to his Mexican connection, Carlos, who is an even bigger fish in the drug dealing business.
One of the top cop's in the DEA, Lt. Nick Frescia, is close friends with Dale, but is being pressured by his collegues to bust Dale and bring him in. During a run in with Dale in the town's fancy resturant, Nick is aquainted with waitress Jo Ann, who also owns the resturant. Dale is secretly crushing on Jo Ann, explaining his daily visits to the resturant, but problems arise when Nick also falls for Jo Ann, and a relationship sprout between the two.
Nick is trying to use Jo Ann to get too Dale, and hopefully to find Carlos, who is coming to California to meet up with Dale against his will, to get drug money back that Dale had hidden in his boat. When Nick tells Jo Ann that Dale is a drug dealer, he tells her that Dale will be asking her to cater a welcome party for Carlos, which ends up being, to the DEA's mistake, a birthday party for Dale's youg son, Cody.
Jo Ann slowly becomes attracted to Dale, after he admits to her that he's in love with her, and has been a long time. Their relationship quickly blossoms, and leads to an all night free for all in Dale's hot tub. What Jo Ann and Dale didn't realize, is that they were being watched the whole time by Mexican cops working for the DEA, along with them is Escolonte', who is actually Carlos, who had been partnered with Maguire(J.T. Walsh) for 6 years, without Maguire knowing he was the big time drug dealer he had been after for so many years.
The movie has a pretty thrilling, happy, romantic ending, so I dedfinetly reccomend ya see it!!!!
