Fairport took on a tough Greece Athena team next. The Red Raiders battled
hard the entire game but came up just short falling 9-8.
After falling behind 4-0 in the top of the first, Fairport battled back to
tie the score in the bottom of the inning. Steve Economides delivered the
key hit with a single to center that drove in two runs.
The Red Raiders scored again in the third. Wetzel singled down the left
field line then scored on a double to right center by Ian Ammons.
Fairport scored two more in the sixth to cut the deficit to 9-7. Ammons and
Economides led off the inning with base hits and Tim Atkinson drove in a run
with a fielder's choice.
In the seventh, Schild and Wetzel (3 hits) tried to spark the Red Raiders
with base hits after two outs. Pierce Ammons lined a single to left to
drive in Schild but the Athena closed the door on the Fairport rally. Tim
Duffy pitched a complete game.
