Last Will and Testament of Susan (Brothers) Caple
Last Will and Testament of Susan (Brothers) Caple
In the name of God Amen:
I, Susan Caple, wife of William Caple Senior of Carroll County in the State of Maryland, being in sound health and of disposing mind, memory and understanding, considering the certainty of death, and the uncertainty of the time thereof, and being seized and possessed of a Farm or parcel of Land lying in said County containing Ninety one acres, one road and Twenty square perches of land more or less, which I acquired by a conveyance from Azariah Oursler dated on the Third day of October in the year Eighteen Hundred and Eighty one, and also of personal property which I have also acquired since the adoption of the Code of Public General Laws of the State of Maryland, and of which said real estate and personal property I am seized and possessed in my own seperate right, and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me, hence do therefore make ordain and publish this my Last Will and Testament in manner and form following that is to say:
First and principally I commit my soul into the hands of Almighty God and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor hereinafter named:
(Item:) I give bequeath and devise unto my son Jacob F. Caple all my real estate, and also all my personal property whatsoever to him his heirs and assigns forever: Subject nevertheless to the conditions following that is to say: my said son Jacob F. Caple shall pay all the debt which I may owe at my death; he shall also pay to Annie Caple, wife of my son William Caple Junior, for the use of herself and children Two Hundred Dollars; to my daughter Alice Virginia Caple Two Hundred Dollars; to my daughter Lucinda Blizzard One Hundred Dollars; to my daughter Catharine Dell Fifty Dollars; to my daughter Violet Miller Ten Dollars; and to my daughter Ann America Blizzard Ten Dollars; and I declare that my affection to the last two named, and also to the rest of my children to whom I give nothing by this my will, is not less than to those of my children to whom I have devised and bequeathed as above mentioned, and that my sole reason for devising and bequeathing as aforesaid is that I am not possessed of enough to give to all as I would like, and devise to dispose of what I have so as to be of the greatest use and benefit to my family.
(Item:) I will and direct that my said son Jacob F. Caple shall provide for and take care of my two infant Grandchildren Bradley Austin Winters, and William Jacob Winters, children of my deceased daughter Julia, until they shall respectively attain their majority.
And lastly: I hereby constitute and appoint my said son Jacob F. Caple to be sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament: In testimony whereof I hereunto subscribe my name and affix my seal on this Twenty first day of April in the year Eighteen hundred and Eighty Four.
Susan Caple, (Seal)
