Scythe.
The Scythe were attacking the castle. Previous
battles have found that they are known to have eaten corpses. And the corpses left showed it. I
grabbed a dead guard's sword and rushed in, through the wide open castle gate.
When I got inside, I saw a crowd of Knights
advancing on a group of Scythe members. Each member of the group had very visible marks of the
Scythe, although one of them didn't have a mark. As I looked more carefully, I saw that one of
our Knight princes was the front of the group, but instead of being a prisoner, it seemed he was
the leader of them.
A betrayal. Just the thought of it disgusted me.
That one would turn his back on a group that has given them so much. Espcially this coming from
a prince. Usually, the betrayals are done well outside of the castle, but this was a daring one.
It was done right inside the castle.
The betraying prince had a knife in his hand.
The other arm was firmly holding to another Knight, a young one, and the knife was at her throat.
Her auburn colored hair wildly moved around as she tried to struggled out of the betrayer's
grasp.
"Help!" the captured Knight screamed.
"Quiet!" said the betrayer. He tightened his
grip on the knight. "Now, you all just back off, or this Knight here gets it." The betrayer
waved his knife around to show he was seriously considering.
I hid in the shadows. I don't think they saw me
enter the castle. The group began slowly going backwards, towards the castle gate. The group of
Knights slowly advanced with them, keeping pace. I waited for them to get closer. I might have
been able to take a few of the Scythers out. But, I had to make sure that Knight prisoner would
be safe.
The group of Scythe and the betrayer slid closer
to me. Looking around, the betrayer quickly raised the hostage Knight to his shoulders and made
a mad rush for the castle gate. He ran pretty quick for somebody holding a person. His Scythe
allies followed.
I noticed something in the betrayer's pack. It
appeared to be a scroll of some sort, it was protruding from the open top. As the group continued
to run, I jumped from the shadows. I timed it so I wouldn't hit on the members, but be able to
get the scroll.
And I did. I knocked the betrayer down. The
hostage fell to the ground next to me. The scroll also flew out of his open pack. I caught it in
midair. The betrayer quickly got up from the ground. His Scythe allies surrounded him again.
The betrayer gave me an evil glare. "You better
hand that back boy," he growled, "Or you will be sorry." The Scythe members came towards me,
weapons drawn.
The female Knight didn't get too far, so she took
cover behind me. I tried my best to cover her, but I still needed to find a way out myself. There
was no way I could fight all of them back, and the Knight group was still wary of advancing.
That's what I thought. "Don't worry, we've got
him covered." said a familiar voice behind me. I slowly turned my head backwards. As I looked, I
saw a large group of Knights. They all had various weapons drawn. Swords, clubs, spears, blades.
Some had shields, some had helmets, some had armor, some had all, and some even had none. A few
even had wolves beside them, growling. Probably the whole active force was on hand, right there.
In front of all the Knights was KSki.
"Yeah, what are you going to do about it?" KSki
said. The group advanced boldly forwards.
The betrayer and his Scythe friends went back
towards the castle gates. They were all angry, especially the betrayer who was extremely mad.
"You remember," said the betrayer, "That the
Scythe will overcome, and I'll be back. I'm going to get that scroll, and you will all rot at my
feet." With that, the betrayer and his Scythe friends sped away into the night.
There was still something wrong though. As I
looked back, the female Knight was going into shock. She was probably overwhelmed by the
situation. She started to have twitches. Quickly enough though, she fell into an unconscious
state. I bent over to try and help her.
Luckily, her eyes opened slightly."What...what
happened?" she asked me in a feeble voice.
"Nothing, don't worry about it." I tried to calm
her down.
"I was taken prisoner. That kind of thing doesn't
happen everyday." she repiled.
"True. You'll be fine, just rest."
"Thanks." She gave me a small smile. Then her
eyes closed back up again. I shouted for some clerics to come and take care of her. They picked
her up and took off her to rest.
I started to get back up, but someone quickly
helped me to my feet. I looked up, and saw KSki's face beaming back at me. He gave me a tight hug
and patted me on the back a few times. I took the hug, but I was now facing backwards, towards
the castle garden.
Something was up there. Someone was there.
Watching. It looked vaguely familiar...almost like...
KSki grabbed my attention again though. "Where
you been?" he asked me, his face still smiling.
I shrugged. "I've, i've been around." I really
needed to find a way to get to the garden. "KSki? Mind if you excuse me for a moment?"
"Sure, no problem." he said. "Besides, I need to
check the situation." I nodded at him and started to run for the garden. "Where you going now?"
he shouted at me.
"The garden, you'll find me there." I shouted
back. I kept running.
The castle garden was one of the best, but the
recent Scythe attack gave it a darker view. I searched around. The person I thought who was here,
was nowhere to be found. I took a seat on one of the benches.
I rubbed my eyes and started to concentrate. I
started to hear someone breathing. Right next to me.
Wasting no time, I quickly got up and withdrew
my sword. I pointed it at the person on the bench, because I knew who was there.
Kushana. She stared up at me for a bit, but then
looked shocked when I pointed my sword at her. It was unwaving, I kept it steady, aimed at her
throat.
"Knight!" she screamed. "What are you
doing!?"
"What am I doing?" I said. Was she so dense? "You
want to know? I'm going to do what I should have done a long time ago."
Kushana started to get a sad look on her face.
"Your going to hurt me, aren't you?" I quickly nodded. She let out a deep sigh. "I didn't think
you would have understood."
"Understand what? You have been bothering me at
every chance you get. You almost killed me! I should return the favor."
"No no. That wasn't me."
Wasn't her? "Then who was it?"
"Well, the person you saw looked like me, but it
wasn't me exactly. At least I wasn't in control."
"So, what, your evil twin?" I said, in a
sarcastic tone.
"Knight! You have to believe me, the Kushana you
saw before? It wasn't me!" Kushana seemed to be pleading at me.
I couldn't help it, but I stared right at her
eyes. A feeling came over me. It made realize, I was aiming the sword at the wrong person.
I dropped the sword to the ground, then I fell to
my knees. "Kushana! It's really you?"
Kushana finally started to look happy. "Yes. It
is."
I was in awe. My waiting, was over. At last. I
contained myself from jumping and cheering wildly.
Just as soon as Kushana looked happy, she started
to look sad. "Knight! I can't be here any longer. I can't explain. Not enough time." Kushana let
out a sigh. I was in disbelief. "Just look at that scroll that person tried to take. It should
give you the answer."
"No wait!" I shouted. No use. I closed my eyes,
but when I opened them, she was gone. Disappeared. I got a horrible, cold feeling in my stomach.
I couldn't take it. I was so close, but now, I was even farther then before. Although I had taken
no blows, my insides felt like swords had pierced through them. I groaned loudly. I held back my
tears.
I sat on the bench and I hung my head over me,
just staring at the ground, waiting for something to break my agony.
"Excuse me, sir?" a quiet voice said.
I turned my head towards the source of the voice.
There was another person there. The one I had saved before. She had human features, as well as
being tall and well-proportioned. Her skin had a golden tint to it. "Yes? How are you?" I said
back.
The Knight beamed at me. She came up to me and
sat next to me. I don't know what made her boldly go up, but I guess she felt safe with me. She
gazed at me with her dark brown eyes. "I'm fine. I didn't get to thank you for saving me
though."
"Oh, it's no problem..." I left the sentence
hanging, hoping she would finish it for me.
"Peach. The name is Peach." Peach gave me a
playful grin. "Pleased to meet you as well KnightRC."
"How did you know my name?" I was interested. I
doubt I had made such a name for myself that people knew me.
Peach looked nervous and started to pull on her
long auburn hair nervously. "Oh...Oh, I just...um...do." Peach started to look around.
Peach reminded me of someone. Dblood? The
Dragon's Blood? Yes, when I saw Peach, I thought of her. But it was stupid. Dblood had dark green
eyes, and red hair. "Ah, don't worry yourself so much. Anyways, it was no problem rescuing you,
it was not a problem at all."
Peach went from nevrous to happy again after I
said that. "Thanks then. I have something to tell you though."
I was going to say something, but KSki appeared
at the castle gate.
"Knight! Come on, we need to talk!" he shouted at
me. Then he disappeared back into the castle.
"Peach? I'm sorry, I'll see you around, okay?" I
gave her a hug and ran back towards the castle.
It might have been my imagination, but I thought
I saw Peach's eyes turn dark green.
