Starshaped

Ahhhh, good old Blur. Started off as Seymour, then the record company made them change their name and they got massive.

Their albums in order of pure genius:

  • Modern Life Is Rubbish
  • Leisure
  • 13
  • The Great Escape
  • Parklife
  • Blur

As you can tell I like their "early" period best. Modern Life is the best "POP" album of all times, great tunes from beginning to end. When Leisure came out it just seemed like one of many Baggy albums released at the time, but listening to it now you realise how much ahead they were of their peers. The best tunes of the Leisure period are the b-sides of the singles though, Explain, Mr. Briggs and I Know already hinted at the great things to come. Oily Water off Modern Life was released shortly after Leisure (on a Volume compilation) made it seem like they were gonna go weird, in a sort of Shoegaze-y sort of way, but when For Tomorrow was released it was clear they were going for classic pop. And Modern Life was full of it.

Then came Boys And Girls and Parklife, a very annoying album (Clover Over Dover, hello?). The Great Escape was a bit underrated I think, itīs nearly as good as Modern Life and in It Could Be You contains the perfect pop song.

"Blur" I donīt like at all to be honest, Song 2 just pisses me off.

"13" on the other hand, a true return to form, oh yes...... ;)
