Song of the week 10/99
It starts of with a lovely guitar and then the beat comes in, and what a beat it is. Nicked from Led Zepīs "When The Levee Breaks" (I think thatīs what itīs called, not too sure), itīs been used many times (Chapterhouse used it again themselves on "We Are The Beautiful" off Blood Music) but never again like this. Rachel Goswell sings the backing vocals on the chorus and after the middle eight thereīs the best break in music history ever when the beat changes slightly (into the exact same beat that Siouxie and the Banshees used on "Kiss Them For Me" which was released at around the same time), this part of the song still gets me every time even though Iīve heard it about a thousand times already. Well, what else can I say, a proper Shoegazing classic and, in my opinion, one of the best songs ever *sob* ;).
This weekīs song of the week is "Pearl" by Chapterhouse. Itīs one of the songs that actually got me into indie, I first heard it on Super Channel (which has now turned into NBC Europe, but back then showed loads of cool videos) and loved it. The video was mostly just a close up shot of the singerīs face and the other band members faces floating around on the screen.
