The purpose of this page is to not reinvent the wheel. The purpose is to help you help yourself - to guide you to Thee Sources that really make basic web page creation a snap. There are also many sources - as many as I could find -
on every aspect of Web Page Design and Creation. If it's not here - or
at least a Link to it, Beats the Hell outa me !
Everyone has a different learning style. I tend to prefer the "straight out"
method or the "show me how it works" style. In medical school, when I was on
Surgery rotation, Ed Bacari, M.D., the Chief Resident, said "Hey You Guys, pay
attention, It's See One, Do One, Teach One". I like that. In that context I will
present to you the Basic Stuff you will need to Create your first Home Page. The
Following Web Sites are the ones that helped me the most when I started:
You've been cruising the Web for awhile. Maybe you're one of the masses that invaded the web last Fall, or maybe got a computer for Christmas. You're getting comfortable on AOL, know how to Save As, know how to Download and
can even Unzip things. You've seen a lot of Web Pages and sooner or later the
idea comes to mind, "I wanna make my own home page, but OhmyGod, your gotta be a computer NerdGeek to do that". So, you temporarily drop the idea, but sooner or later you get infected, you see the terms URL, HTML, cgi, JAVA,
PERL, Graphics, Frames, and Forms so many times, you just kind of start looking into
it. A Very little bit at first, then One Fine Day, it grips you:"I'm gonna find out how
they do that!" You still don't do much because the committee in the back of your head says, "C'mon, Whaat are ya, you can't do that stuff, You gotta be a
TechnoNerdGeek full time Web Cookie, C'mon get outta here, Forget It". So you do, for awhile. Then it hits you again. This time it is One FINE Day. You're
clickin in the head, all this is starting to come together, the weather is nice, it's
sunny out and you Take Charge! You look into how to make a Web Page. Your first embarrassement is finding out how easy it is to make a Simple Generic
Home Page that has big and little print on it, Black Print on White Background.
When your first generic page pops up that is a compilation of actual Words, and
words that alass, connect in real sentences, You feel like you've just written the
Great American Novel ! Then you start getting Newbie Fancy - You start changing colors, learn how to link to another page and even how to add small
thumbnail pictures. Wow, you're Cookin now!
I swear to God, with the above ten sites, you'll be able to make the grooviestcool get down Home Page you could possibly think of!
The following are all Great Sites and Very Helpful - The Iceing on the Cake - You'll learn about Java, HTML, JavaScript, PERL, CGI, Hosting[!], Frames, No Frames, Forms, Active X[?], and lotsa other goodies. You'll then be the proud owner of the Grooviest CyberpunkinNerdoGeek Homepage on the Web and be the Envy of all your Geek friends. Go For It!
Hey, You been to the Library Yet? I'm goin' over there to see the Web Authoring Series. It's one of those reference set, so ya gotta go to the Library, 2nd Floor. C'mon I'll show ya where it's at!
