Team Rocket's Secret Empire was a radio show that aired on Sunday evenings from July to December in 2012. It contained a variety of humorous skits and interviews designed to convert the entire world into members of Team Rocket! In the spring of 2013 several CDs, collecting material from the show and some new content as well, were released.
Volume one was themed around Jessie and was released February 22, 2013.
In the liner notes of this volume was a message from 拓郎村椿 Takurou Muratsubaki- Producer of the radio show, as well as other Pokemon projects:
"Mutsu’s soliloqy"
"I’m “Muttsukoto” Muratsubaki. I want to thank all of you Team Rocket members for purchasing Team Rocket’s Secret Empire (Jessie Version). With the support of all of you Team Rocket members, and lots of staff, we were able to produce a truly enjoyable radio show for half of 2012, from July to December. I truly appreciate it. We had plans for this show for over a year before its broadcast. The idea for the show had its origins in a comment from Director Mitsuma, in charge of sound direction for the pokemon anime and movies, who said; “If we were able to do a radio show with Team Rocket, it’d be really interesting, wouldn’t it?!”
However, why radio?
Still there were various things to be considered, such as the timing of the broadcast, so it took a significant amount of time before it could be realized. Meanwhile, in 2012 the Pokemon movie had celebrated its 15th anniversary. So for the people who have been long time fans of Team Rocket, it seemed to be the perfect time to carry out these plans.
Additionally the Pokemon Best Wishes tv anime was different from the seasons that had come before, in that it was painting Team Rocket as more serious characters. However, I was thinking that I’d enjoy working with the “good old” Team Rocket, who denounced the evils of truth and love. So on the radio our so called “Secret Broadcast” was a bit more playful and loveable. Initially I was also considering a late night broadcast, but… (laughs) For the program itself, rather than a usual radio show with song requests and “free talk” sections, we wanted a change from that sort of thing. So from the strong feelings of Director Mitsuma, various “corners” were born. We wanted to do some exercises with Twitter, and have a drama corner at the beginning. We did farcical Tweets from members of Team Rocket and so on…
With the three main characters of Team Rocket going full-throttle, we had (QQ Directive! New item! Try it out no matter what!) (Who or what in the world is QQ? I’m married and I still don’t get it) In the index, Space Alien 1 and Space Alien 2 are the first items in the drama series, but while we were broadcasting, there were a pretty large amount of team rocket members tweeting that the alien was “Missingno”. However at first, no one on the production staff understood what that meant. Afterwards, looking it up on the web we were like “Ohh, I get it! So that’s what that means!” (Laughs)
Also in the (QQ Directive) corner, Team Rocket tried out various items, but it seems that Jessie= The prime minister of food? For this reason, I was allowed to put all of the food related material on the Jessie version album.
So be sure to enjoy Musashi’s Food World with us! In the end, we weren’t able to reach 7 billion people, but we are extremely grateful for all 40,000 of you who became Team Rocket members (Followers). Maybe someday we’ll consider negotiating to revive the radio show.
We appreciate your warm support of Team Rocket next time, too!
Team Rocket forver! Victory~~!!"
Volume one was themed around James and was released March 29, 2013.
Volume one was themed around Meowth and was released April 26, 2013.
