What is the Institute for Tsunamic Justice?
Dr. Martin Luther King stated in 1967 that America was "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today." What Dr. King said then still holds true in 1999, perhaps more so. It is with hypocrisy and sheer arrogance that America not only claims to be part of "the free world," but bestows upon itself the mantle of being its "leader." Nothing could be further from the truth. America is not now, and has not been at any point in its history a "democracy." There has been no democracy in America for people of color, no end to the impoverishment of the many for the enrichment of the few, no "equal justice for all."
With the successful repression of the movements for social change in the 1960's and '70's, the U.S. government has steadily moved toward sophisticated fascism. Each year the courts give the police more repressive power, making them immune from ever being held criminally liable, even when they execute people in the streets. The U.S. prison population steadily grows in quantum leaps, making incarceration one of the nation's largest growth industries. Those who struggle for change, who resist, are imprisoned or executed. The impoverished and people of color are targeted by criminal legislation aimed at making it easy to incarcerate them from one generation to the next.
There must be a tidal wave of resistance to the injustice that is America, a tsunamic wave of the people for justice.
The Institute for Tsunamic Justice is a people’s organization dedicated to fighting the system of American injustice. We are advocates for the design and implementation of new paradigms of struggle not only to free political prisoners and prisoners of war in America, but to end political imprisonment. We are front-line soldiers in the battle against police violence and abuse. We do not accept the alleged integrity of the American judicial system, we know it to be primarily racist, corrupt and unworkable. It is our right and moral duty to oppose this system of diabolical injustice, oppression and repression. It is all of our responsibility to make "ALL POWER TO THE PEOPLE" a reality.
The Institute for Tsunamic Justice works on instances of injustice primarily regarding political imprisonment, police violence and the prison industrial complex. Pulling from our collective knowledge of history, law and politics, we devise strategies that put politics in command of efforts to end or address an injustice. We help others to understand that political problems cannot be resolved through purely legal strategies.
The Institute for Tsunamic Justice works from the position that fundamental human rights must be recognized and respected by all governments, especially the U.S. We encourage people not to be afraid to stand for their rights, to struggle for them, to believe they can and understand that they must. We research to devise innovative political and legal strategies. We offer assistance developing, disseminating and exchanging information through various forms of media and public outreach. We bring with us national connections to others who are also fighting for social justice. We are firmly determined to resist and defeat injustice.
The Institute for Tsunamic Justice is a small not for profit organization and can only take on cases of very wide impact. However, as we develop, we intend to cover more front-line territory. This means that, while we continue working on cases of police violence and political imprisonment, we will be able to take on other issues affecting the community. We plan to help others organize similar efforts in oppressed communities across the nation, epic centers to contribute to the tidal wave for justice.
