Peter's Doppelganger Part Twelve

Peter's Doppelganger

Part Twelve

And so, after a happy reunion, Davy returned to the Pad. His ability, though lost for a few days, soon returned to normal strength. He awoke one morning, three days after his return, and decided that then was the best time to search for Pleter. After all, he wasn't totally gone, and he would feel safer after he knew where he was.

Since Mike and Micky were nowhere to be seen, he sat down on the couch in the living room and began his task.

Nicole entered the Pad through the front door. Peter had said that he was coming over here, and now she wanted to know where he was. But the Pad appeared empty. The only person she saw was Davy. The back of his head was all she saw from the front door as she entered the Pad.

'Maybe he knows where Peter went,' Nicole thought to herself. She reached out and tapped Davy on the shoulder.

Suddenly, something that she wasn't expecting happened. A strange sensation came over her, and she felt suddenly as though she was high in the air. A million feelings assaulted her at once. None of them were her own; they seemed to be coming from almost everywhere but her own mind.

Fear was the only emotion that was her own, and she immediately let go. A shiver went down her spine, and her head began to ache. Nausea filled her every bone. Her legs began to feel weak, and she collapsed, her legs giving out from under her.

Davy sensed something was wrong at that moment, and stood up, turning around. He managed to get around the couch and under her in time to catch her.

"Are you alright?" he asked her, his voice showing concern.

"I-I think so," she mumbled. "M'head hurts and I'm dizzy, though," she added with a moan and a sigh.

The back doors opened and Mike, Micky, and Peter entered from where they had been on the beach just as Davy was helping Nicole to her feet. Peter, concerned, rushed over to his wife.

"What happened? Are you alright?" he asked, taking over for Davy.

"I'm fine," she replied.

"What happened?" Peter asked, worried. He cast a worried look at Nicole and then at Davy.

"Nothing," she replied.

"Well then, why do you look so pale?" he asked.

"I-I don't know," she confessed shakily. She pushed his hand aside and stepped away. "I'll be fine."

Peter looked at Davy for an explanation. Davy shrugged.

"I don't know, Petah," Davy replied. "I was searching…for Pletah…you know…and then, she just…sort of…fainted."

"I said I'm fine," Nicole repeated, but she didn't hide it well because she winced in pain and grabbed her head just then.

Peter stepped forward, instinct judging his next actions. He stepped forward, and placed a hand on her head, ready to relieve whatever pain she felt.

"I said I'm fine," she snapped again, and Peter felt a shock of pain rush through his body.

Gasping slightly, he took a step backwards and held his head. "What?" he asked, softly, amazed.

Nicole looked at him in surprise. "Peter?" she asked, concerned now. "I'm sorry…I…I didn't mean to," she apologized.

Peter shook his head. "It's okay," he replied, wincing. "What did you do?"

"I'm…I'm not sure," she confessed, looking confused.

"Maybe you'd better explain," Mike said. "The rest of us are lost."

"Nothing, really. I was just…coming in here to look for Peter, and I tapped Davy on the shoulder. I didn't realize that he was searching," she confessed. "And then something weird happened."

"Something weird?" Micky asked. "What do you mean by weird?"

"I don't know. I felt…weird. Like I was flying or somethin'. And then I felt like I was feeling a thousand different feelings that weren't mine."

Now it was Davy's turn to gasp. "You…you came!" he said, shocked.

"Came?" Peter asked.

"On…on the search," Davy clarified. "That was why I felt like someone else was with me. There was!"

"But how?" Nicole asked.

"I don't know," Davy confessed.

"Maybe…his powers went through her," Micky theorized. "Maybe what he was seeing was transferred to her."

"But how?" Mike asked. "That's never happened before."

"No," Micky agreed. "But maybe she's different."

"Different how?"

"I think...I must be...my ability...I'm a conduit," Nicole finished for him.
