I just found this page. Later I will add some information. Perhaps some notes to the origin of the name WILKENS. There is an other explanation.

The Sachsen in the 12th. Century had had so called "Fronhofverbände" which is in Latin "Villicationen", that means, that a lot of people had to work for a master. The chief of such a Villication was the Villicus.

The first named ancestor in my town is Henricus Villicus from 1250! My Fathers name is Heinrich Wilkens.

In former times, 1700 - 1800 the name WILKENS often is written Willikens. You see the simlar sound and spelling ? Villicus - Willikens - Wilkens. So I am not a friend of the explanation that Wilkens comes from William. By the way it sounds so common. So far for today. Thanks for listening and please excuse the mistakes.

Thomas
