My great grandfather was Joseph William Wilkins m. Mary or Mamie Read (b.1894)--Joseph's brother was Russell Wilkins and he had one sister-i don't know her name but she married a Read, the brother of Mamie Read.

Mamie Read's grandfather was a Brown, who was an old time preacher that traveled a circuit.

Joseph and Mamie's children:

Walter Byron Wilkins, Sr.,
Charles Russel Wilkins m. Grace?? lived in Galesburg, Il,
and Alice Wilkins Winter, with husband owned a grocery in Detroit, IL

Buried in Wilson McCord Cemetery in Perry, IL is Russell E. Wilkins 1882-1957 and wife Katie Hornbeck 1883-1965. they owned a store in Perry, IL for a while.

Julia Wilkins Saylor, and Nelson Wilkins, Co.D 99th Ill. Inf. 1842-1903 and his wife Sarah A 1851 -1924. is Nelson a brother to Julia? Is Nelson my Gr Gr grandfather? possibly the father of Joseph William Wilkins? (my gr grandfather)

J. Newton Wilkins 1860-1888, and Milton A. Wilkins 1847-1936 and wife Sarah E. 1847-1929. Could these people be my relatives?

Julia's parents are Peter Wilkins 22 Dec1814- 9 Feb 1892 and Elizabeth 26 June 1818- 14 Jan 1894. Buried close to them or in their plot is an Alice Wilkins 1875-1927. (my grandfather Walter B. Wilkins had a sister named Alice who married a Winter- she was born after this Alice and is now deceased- i was wondering if she may have been named after this Alice. my aunt alice wilkins winter ran a grocery store in Detroit IL during WWII time, and i think she is buried in Blue River Cemetery in Pike co. with her daughter Rose Winter Saylor).

Buried in Pittsfield West Cemetery is Russell O. Wilkins 14 Nov 1908- 14 June 1974, a vet of WWII and with him Oliver Wilkins 1881-1966 and wife Pearl Belford Wilkins 1886-1950. and Lawrence E. Wilkins 1886-1977 and wife Mary (Shaw) 1881-1953.

In the 1850 Census Oliver lived in Pike Co., ILL other info I've found: There was a John A Read m. Rose Wilkins. This John Read may be a brother to Mary Read Wilkins(my gr grandmother-Joseph's"Bud" wife). Is this Rose the sister to Joseph and Russell, mentioned in my original message? it would have been common for families to have a couple of siblings marrying siblings from another family.

John and Rose's children were: Hazel, Asahel, Leslie Read living at one time in Baylis, Pike Co. Illinos with a Perry telephone number. Also found an Oliver W. Wilkins D99 INF Civil War, from Perry IL (would this Oliver W. be a father to the above Oliver b.1881, after the Civil War?) and Nelson Wilkins D99INF Civil War Vet from Barry IL Also found a birth record for a Thelma Bernice Wilkins born in PA B.1-9-25, and father listed as William Oliver Wilkins, wife Pearl.

There is a Rose Wilkins from Pike Co. IL mentioned in the 1919 Prairie Farmer Reliable Directory, taken from the PikeCo GenWeb site, listed under "books". If anyone knows of the connections in this puzzle please let me know,

thanks, Cyndi Wilkins Smock
