Submitted by: Jeff Wilkins

I have the following information on Harrison Wilkins:

b. March 5, 1841 to Ozias and Matilda (Hines) Wilkins Harrison Co., OH
m. August 20, 1867 to Mary M. Marts in Fountainhead, IN
d. August 11, 1926 in New Palestine, IN (Civil War Headstone)

I have a package of information from the National Archives:

Harrison joined the 13th Regiment, Company E of the Ohio Infantry Vols. on June 11, 1861 for three years.

At the time of his enlistment, Harrison stood 6' tall and had blue eyes, light hair and light complexion.

At the battle of Murfreesboro (Stone River) he was wounded severely above the right ear. Casualty sheet indicated date of casualty "from Dec. 30, 1862 to Jan. 3, 1863." A physician later noted: "Impacted cerumen anterior portion of tympanum membrane is perforated and he suffered great pain upon removal of cerumen."

Harrison claimed to have contracted a severe cold on the banks of the Kanawa River, WV in 1862 which resulted in chronic bronchitis.

Harrison was placed on the "pension rolls" after many years of correspondence with the Department of Interior, Bureau of Pensions.

I have all of Harrison's muster roll cards, pension correspondence, etc.

Harrison & Mary Wilkins had the following children:

Flora J. - 1868
Charles O. - 1871
Oliver E. - 1873
Leoti - 1876
Harvey - 1878

After his wife died in 1916, his daughter Leoti provided constant care of Harrison until his death in 1926. He suffered most of his life with dizziness and lung problems brought on by his civil war wounds and the bronchitis contracted along the banks of the Kawanee River in WV.
