Isis nurses the infant Horus in this Late Period faience figurine. The form of the sculpture resembles the Egyptian hieroglyph for "thorn" - the meaning of the name is Isis. As her cult spread throughout the roman world, such depictions of the goddess and her infant son became widespread and served as the model for Christian representations of the Virgin and Child.
