Alpha Zeta chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was established in September 1923. The chapter became the first graduate chapter in Zeta Phi Beta Sorority.

These members were recent graduates of Morgan College (now, Morgan State University) and graduate sorors from Gamma Chapter.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority was the first Greek letter sorority established on Morgan's Campus. The purpose of the organization was to continue the perpetuation of the ideals and objectives of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority into the larger Baltimore Community.

Special affiliated organizations to Alpha Zeta are:

  1. The Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. - Official Brothers of Zeta
  2. The Amicae of Greater Baltimore - Freinds of Zeta committed to service
  3. The Archonettes - secondary school girls' group (Ages 14-18)
  4. The Amicettes - elementary school girls' group (Ages 9-13)
  5. The Pearlettes - pre-school and elementary school girls' group (Ages 4-8)

Currently, the Chapter's implementation of the National theme: "Positioning Zeta for Preeminence" continues to impact the community through the following outeach efforts: co-sponsors of the Annual Maryland State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Conference: sponsors of the "Just Say No To Drugs" clubs in Baltimore City elementary schools: participants in Voter Registration and Voter Education: and particpants in the Coppin State College Annual Health Fair. Each year, Alpha Zeta sponsors a Public Forum - "Zeta's Advocating Non-Violence Through Drug Abuse Prevention".

In aiding and enhancing the continuous growth of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Alpha Zeta Chapter sponsors and advises four undergraduate chapters: Gamma, Morgan State University; Nu Gamma, Coppin State College; Theta Eta, University of Maryland, Baltimore County and Epsilon Rho, Sojourner Douglas.
