When we last left our sordid little story, Dirk had been killed, went to Heaven, was confused for a gay man, damned to Hell, and was sent to work for Satan himself, Carson Daly, as his personal assistant. When Dirk went to Earth with Carson to work at MTV, he was surprised to find that he was now in the body of a very attractive brunette girl. Dirk was slighty molested by Justin Timberlake, and discovered that idiot superstar Tom Green was once the smartest guy at MTV until he discovered Carson's evil little secret. At the end of the episode, Dirk made his television debut as Shannon Davids, his earthly alter-ego. Eliza was watching, and when she saw Shannon, she screamed out her beloved dead boyfriend's name and fainted.
The scene opens in Eliza's living room, where Jonathon and Lizzie are trying to revive an unconcious Eliza. MTV's hit show Total Request Live is on the screen, and we can dimly see Shannon's blushing face on the screen. Jonathon finally splashes some water on his friend, and, sputtering, Eliza awakens.
Eliza: "D-did you s-see her? That girl l-looked just like my Dirk..."
Jonathon and Lizzie exchange glances that give the impression that they can't see the similarity.
Lizzie: (softly) "Um, Eliza, honey, I think you're still a little grief-stricken."
Eliza: "You didn't see him? At first I thought it was a girl too, but I just got this...feeling. Like I knew her from somewhere, and then it hit me: she looks just like Dirk."
Jonathon: "Eliza, come on, let's get you into bed..."
Eliza: (angrily) "Dammit, Jonathon! I am not grief-stricken; I am not delusional! I know what I saw. Shannon Davids of TRL is really Dirk. I don't know how, I don't know why, I only know that I need to meet her and see why I feel this way."
Both Jonathon and Lizzie sigh and help Eliza to her feet. She dusts herself off, then stands up straight and juts her chin out defiantly.
Eliza: "You are both free to come with me, although I'll understand if you choose to stay here. Jonathon, I know you have the election to worry about, and, Lizzie, you have your store. With or without you, however, I am going to New York City. I suppose I needed a vacation anyway."
Lizzie: "Well, you're right, I can't go with you, but I will drive you to the airport if you want."
Eliza: "That's okay, Lizzie. I'm going to drive. Well, I guess I better start packing my things. I'm going to take a week off of work. A few days for sightseeing, a few days to meet with this Shannon Davids and see what's up with her."
Jonathon: "Well, I guess we'd better be going then. Good luck, Eliza. I don't agree with what you're doing, but you're right--you need a vacation. Enjoy yourself in the Big Apple. Check out Central Park while you're up there. It should be nice this time of year."
Both Lizzie and Jonathon give Eliza big hugs good-bye then leave. Eliza turns her attention back to the television where Shannon is announcing the number seven video.
Shannon: (on the television) "You voted for it, and we're delivering it. The number seven video on TRL today is Blink182's "Man Overboard." (To Carson) You know, Carson, the one midget who's supposed to be Travis kinda looks an awful lot like you."
Carson: (on the television)(laughs) "I don't see the resemblance. What about you guys out there?"
The audience cheers their agreement with Shannon (the guys anyway). Carson laughs again as the view on the TV fades into the video. The camera goes through the television to the TRL studios, where the audience is bobbing their heads along with the music. Carson leans over to whisper in Shannon's ear.
Carson: (harshly whispering) "You bastard, why the hell did you say that? I'm the star, not you! Plus, have you forgotten who I am? I gave you those titties, and I can just as easily take them away!"
Shannon: "I'm sorry, but I thought it'd be funny. The audience seems to like it. Anyway, everyone knows that all good shows need a smart-assed sidekick to keep the star in his or her place. It'll make your fans love you even more."
Carson: "I'll think about it. But for now, keep your comments to yourself."
Shannon: "Oh, get a sense of humour. Watch it, we're back on."
Shannon scurries off-screen to find Tom Green and get him ready to premiere his video once the countdown hits number five. Carson continues the show in that smarmy way his dorky little fans love so much.
Meanwhile, back in Dominica, Eliza has set off on the open road in her Honda Civic, Green Day's Nimrod blasting from the speakers. It's a nice day--blue skies, a few puffy clouds, warm sunshine--and for the first time in several weeks, Eliza is happy. But will her happiness last if she knows the truth about MTV's newest and cutest assistant-to-the-head-VJ? Find out next time...
