Cathedral State Park is located east of Grafton on Rt. 50 almost into Maryland.
From Maryland it can be reached by traveling south from Oakland on Rt. 219. Then
turn left on Rt. 50. It is a small park with hiking and
picnicing. It is noted for its virgin hemlock forest and rhododendrons.
This page represents two visits. One in May of 2001 and one in mid January
2002. We made a special trip because snow was predicted. Visit the
official Cathedral web site.

Bridge There's not alot to say about Cathedral other than there are some
nice easy trails and it's a beautiful place for a picnic. We had the place to
ourselves on this rainy Thurs. The park is only about 133 acres, but it's nice.

Trail Of course it is raining in these shots. But that gave the forest
an interesting look with the mist and all. We are on Partridge Berry Trail
here, I think. There is the Centennial Hemlock at this park.
It is 90' tail and 21' in circumference. Unfortunately, it was struck by lightning
and will eventually die, better hurry.

Snow We visited in Jan. 2002 when snow was expected. We got it. Here on
one of the trails, the snow on the branches for a tunnel.

Picnic anyone? This is the picnic area covered with snow. Great place to hike
in the snow.
