Audra State Park is located northwest of Buckhannon off Rt. 119. Just follow the
signs. It is a small park on the Middle Fork River. There is hiking, swimming,
picnicing and a very nice campground. The sites are on the river and are nicely
separated by rhododendrons. Visit the
official Audra web site.

Middle Fork River provides a nice view even in the rain. We stopped here
on our trip from Holly River to Tygart Lake.
The campground is on the left side of the photo. Your allowed to swim in the
river but it was a little chilly the day we were there, 05/15/01.

Alum Cave is pretty cool. We are hiking one of the trails. The boardwalk
takes us along this cliff face and through the cave. There were interesting
rock formations for the entire hike. Our ponchos kept us realatively dry.
|
Salamanders like this little guy were numerous on the trail. We had to
keep an eye out to avoid stepping on them.
|
The trail was like this most of the way. It passed along the river
which is on the right here. Once again there were lots of rhododendrons.
We want to return here for a camping trip one day.

The Philippi covered bridge is a piece of history that dates back to before the
Civil War. It is still in use and there is a lot more of it on the left side of
the photo. We went through here while traveling from Audra to Tygart Lake.

Seneca Rocks is part of the Monongahela National Forest and is located in
eastern WV. There is plenty of hiking and some rustic camping there. This shot
is at the visitor's center on Rt. 55/28. Dolly Sod is also part of this area.

No thumbnail on this park but it is a great day use park. Checkout
