A difficult task for anyone interested in antiques of any category is learning to correctly date them to period of manufacture. The way that things are made changes over time. A collector who is interested in exclusively in collecting military artifacts of World War Two is not interested in including similar things used afterwards in his collection. A collector with an interest in all periods of history wants to correctly identify artifacts to their period of use. It is nice when you are able to acquire things identified to a particular individual who was known to have served at a particular time but too often things are jumbled up on a flea market table or in an antique mall display case and unfortunately have been separated from their history. I am a presenting a series of discussions about dating various categories of military insignia to period of use.
