The Insignia to Denote Excellence of the Coast Artillery Corps was worn by officers and enlisted men, whose batteries demonstrated excellent in target practice, for a year after they
received recognition for excellence. It was worn on the right sleeve of the service coat two inches above the cuff or the left pocket of the shirt.
The letter "E" was two inches in height. The distinction was rescinded in 1947.
