In 1929 two drivers distinguishing marks were introduced. The Master Diver mark had a block letter "M" on the breast plate and the First Class Diver mark had a plain breast plate. In 1943 the number one was placed on the first class driver's mark (as above) and two other classes of drivers were added. Second Class Divers wore a number two and Salvage Divers wore a block letter "S." These cloth marks were replaced by metal qualification badges during the period 1969-1973.
