Pictured Above: Revelation of Love,
painted by Yisehak F-Sellassie
Another addition to the DeLeon
gallery, this F-Sellassie was added as a great example of the most abstract contemporary
spiritually inspired art. Inspired by Psalm 4:8-(which reads "I will both
lay me down in peace, and sleep, for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in
safety")-this work is both abstract and literal, spiritual and physical.
The Lord's protective aura is seen as a beautiful starry blanket which
covers and insulates the sleeping woman pictured from the world. Metaphorically
though, the diaphanous nature of the sleeping woman (if you look closely
you can seen partially through her head and into the background) and monochromatic
coloring scheme used by F-Sellassie here allude to death. The title of
the work "Revelation of Love", would suggest that Sellassie draws from
Psalm 4:8 that this verse is a realization that the gift of life and safety
is only guaranteed by God's protection, something that he gives to us out
of love for his creations. As Psalm 4:8 says literally "...for thou, Lord,
only makest me dwell in safety...".
