My Ideal Classroom


Physical Environment




Desks arranged in groups of 4 or 5
Groups of desks are located in the center of the room
Ample space to move around between groups is provided
Three tables are available for small group work
Several centers are arranged in areas of the room. Math, science, writing, reading, and art are equipped with various supplies.
Each student chooses a center and works in it for half an hour every day for a week. Posters are placed in centers which give students a variety of activities to choose from every week.
Student work is prominently displayed.
A quiet area is available for students who feel over-stimulated.
Several areas are equipped with carpet and beanbag chairs for students who prefer to work in a less formal setting during centers.



Psychosocial Environment





Students feel safe and comfortable.
The classroom is a cheerful place to be.
Everyone in the room respects themselves, others and property.
The class works as a team to set goals and achieve them.
Students have ample personal space.
Encouraging words and actions are prevalent.
Everyone is welcome.
Everyone is included.
Students are encouraged to express themselves.
Individual differences are recognized and respected.
