About Me
I was born in Winchester, VA on December 25, 1974 (that's
right...Christmas Day) to George and Linda Warren. We lived in a
house that my parents built in Martinsburg, WV and where I was terrorized
by my sister, Anne, who is seventeen months older than me. My mother's
parents lived down the road from us. My Grandfather was a respected electrician
in the town and my grandmother worked at home. Unfortunately I don't
remember too much about them because they were killed in a car accident
in Mexico when I was six.
My father's relatives lived in Delaware. My
Grandfather was an electrician (I think) and he live in a small town called
Frederica. I never knew my father's mother because she died before
I was born. My Grandfather married a lady named May who lived across
the street from him. I loved to visit them and I could tell you some
stories about the trouble my sister and I got into, like the time Anne
and I let all of the chickens out of the pen and tried to get them all
back into the pen before we got caught. And the memories of May sneaking
us oreo cookies and milk when mom said we couldn't have any before dinner.
May would bring them up to our room and when we were done, we would put
the empty dishes under the bed and she would collect them in the morning.
Ahhh.... we had some great times there. May took ill one year and
died. I think I was about 10 or 11. My Grandfather's health starting
failing and we had to put him into a nursing home. He died shortly
after that.
Well by this time I am 12 and my parents are divorced
and I don't have any close relatives left. Well except for my Great
Aunt, Beulah Harris (Aunt Buddie) and some scattered cousins.
My sister and I spent a lot of time with Aunt Buddie. After school
we would go over to her house and watch soaps. She had a "magic bowl"
that was always filled with candy or little toys. She later moved
to Hagerstown, MD after some people had broken into her house and set fire
to it while she was on a trip. Our visits became less frequent but
our relationship has never changed.
Well I think that brings me up to High School.
I attend Hedgesville High School in Hedgesville, WV. I was very active
in the school, but not in my school work. I was involved in Drama, Band,
Latin club, SADD, Peer Listening, and I was a manager for the girl's volleyball
team. Maybe I should have spent more time on my school work *laugh*. I
think my high school days were probably the best times of my life.
But in 1993 they kicked me out. Well I wasn't really kicked out...I graduated
and I was on my way to college.
After weeding through a ton on acceptance letters
(yeah right more like 5) I finally decided to attend Penn State.
I spent my first two years at a branch campus in Mont Alto, PA. I
thought I was going into a major that would prepare me for a career as
a park ranger, but on the first day of class the professor announce that
we were going to have to buy a hard hat and an axe. I then thought
to myself, "I am in the wrong class." I had entered the world of Forestry.
I was going to switch to a new major that was more my style, but someone
convinced me to give it a week. after a week...I loved it! I was
out in the woods all day. I even learned how to use a chain saw and drive
a skidder. I joined the Woodsman team and competed in such events as; bolt
split, girls crosscut, Jack and Jill crosscut, pole fell, bow saw, pulp
toss, and pack board relay. Can you picture little 'ol me doing that
stuff...well I did. Our girl's team had the tiniest women out of
all the teams that competed but we held our own. In 1995 I obtained
my Associate degree in Forest Technology and I was on my way to the main
campus in State College,PA.
After spending three years at the main campus I
graduated with a BS in Recreation and Park Management. Shortly after
graduation I moved to Thurmont, MD and started working at a local zoo.
I snagged the position of "Education Co-ordinator" which meant I was responsible
for all the stage shows and birthday parties. During the winter I was assigned
to animal care duties, which meant that I now had to take care of the hoof
stock (goats, llamas, elk, sheep...you get the picture) and all the exotic
birds. While at the zoo, I met the love of my life...no it wasn't a human...it
was a bird. A Sun Conure to be exact...named Merlin. The zoo allowed me
to adopt him and it was love at first sight. My mom swears it will be the
only grandchild she will ever have. Working at the zoo was fun for a while
until the animals turned on me and started to take over. I was bitten by
snakes on my face and leg, almost had my arm taken off by a baby alligator,
stalked by a vicious swan, almost pecked to death by a band of emu...but
the worst was having my ass kicked by a llama. I finally decided that this
job was not for me so I began applying to parks and in the summer of 1999
I accepted a position at a local National Park. I have work at this park
for two years. It is only a Temporary position (which means I can't work
more than 1040 hours per year). I am currently looking for a full
time ranger position. I would like to move south...someplace warm like
Georgia. But we will see. I will keep you informed.Okay that is it for
me. I think you now know every thing about me. I hope you enjoyed
it........that's it.........okay you can leave this page now.....come on
there is a lot of other great stuff on this site......would you go!
