Some Good News to Report
Mood:  happy
After walking in thigh high smelly marsh mud, we were able to finally reach the fallen eagle nest tree. I could here the adults calling but couldn't find them in the trees. Josh spotted one of the youngsters sitting in a tree not far from where we stood. It didn't move the whole time we were there but appeared to be okay. We then proceeded to walk around the other side. All the sudden we surprised the second eagle who was nestled just under the tree. When it spotted us, it attempted to move. That is when we noticed that something was wrong with its wing. I radioed the office and my co-workers are trying hard to contact a local rescue group to come and get it. Hopefully it can be rehabilitated and released.

So happy they are both alive. YEA!!!!

Oh Yay!! So glad they're alive! Did they look like they're in their fledgeling stage? (i.e. going to be okay on the ground)

They both seem ready to fledge. One managed to make it up into a tree so he will be safe. The other one is unable to fly due to an injured wing. He needs to be removed quickly because he is a sitting duck for any predator. We have a rescue guy going out to meet our forester at the site so they can "rescue" it. It will then go to the Carolina Raptor Center and hopefully they will be able to fix its wing and we can return him to the wild. This will be the 3rd release we will have in 3 years. I only wish I had taken a camera out with me this morning.

LOL You wouldn't envy my job if you saw the muck we had to crawl through to get to the eagle nest.
