Some of the greatest friendships
You will ever come to find
Are discovered when friendship
Is the last thing on your mind.
Even a person so full of love
It seems to overflow
Can come upon someone new
Sent along to help them grow
Perhaps they needed guidance
Or a gentle soothing hand,
A shoulder they could lean on
When life made its demands.
At times the new found friendship
Is not about what you lack;
They are specifically sent to you
To help them back on track.
You may have just the very words
Their heart needs to hear,
Or perhaps you're the only person
Who understands their fear.
Whatever be the reason
For the meeting of your souls,
Without finding that friendship
You life would not be whole.
So as I look around
At the friends who played a part,
I know I feel the essence
Of their spirit in my heart.
My life in some way affected
By the addition of their love
A touch only here on earth,
But sent from God above.
