The Journey

Jacqueline’s Junque

I was journeying down life's highway,
I had no true purpose in life;
I was bound by sin and confusion,
Full of bitterness, envy and strife.
I carried all of my burdens,
With a heart full of pity and pain;
It almost felt quite natural,
To want sunshine, and only have rain.

My days, they grew dark and empty,
At times, the hurt was too much;
But I had no way of healing,
Without the Master's sweet touch.
So I began to search for an answer,
Some relief from my heavy load;
When someone pointed out a direction,
And showed me an old traveled road.

My first stop was a cold, barren hill,
With crosses, I counted just three;
A place of death and strong darkness,
And it's name was called Calvary.
The next stop I found was an altar,
On my knees I did fall and confess;
The Lord in His mercy forgave me,
For the life I'd turned into a mess.

I continued on in my journey,
Through faith, I then realized;
I had to go down to the water,
And in His name I would be baptized.
Ever faithful to His great promise,
He gave me what I needed most;
He filled my heart with His spirit,
Through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Now, I live a life of gladness,
Full of peace, full of love, hope and joy;
With faith that is ever increasing,
That no evil can ever destroy.
So, if you listen to me tell my story,
The words that I say still are true;
Jesus saved me from my own destruction,
And He can to it, Friend... for You!
This poem, written in the spring of 1996,
has very personal meaning for me.
It was a time when all my sons became adults and I felt
as if I had lost my place in their lives.
Hidden in a bookcase for me to find yet again,
I share it now with you.

The very day I rediscovered this, I also heard,
for the first time, this beautiful song
by Enya, entitled "Pilgrim."
Please take the time to listen to the song.
I like to think of myself as a pilgrim.
I have been on a journey since the day I was born.
I have had many questions and found
many different answers in my life,
but the one answer that has always proven true
has been my belief and my faith
in my personal Lord and Saviour,
Jesus Christ.
