She put her finger to his lips,
"No, please dont say it",
she whispered,
trying so hard not to cry.
Misunderstandings between them
had led him to say good-bye,
leaving no chance to work out
the hurt that had touched them.
"Why, good-bye?"
her trembling lips mouthed.
"Is there nothing else we can say?
Is what we shared, so little,
that we simply toss it aside,
after all this time and all
we have both unselfishly given?
Am I so easily forgotten?"
She waited in the silence
that filled her ears,
and caused her heart to throb
with an unbearable ache.
Praying that he would pull her back
into his loving arms again,
So she could whisper...
"For you and I,
my forever love,
there can never be good-bye."
