The First Ever Hello Kitty Wedding

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket For those of you who are obsessed with "Hello Kitty," you'll be pleased to know that the Daiichi Hanyu hotel chain in Japan has begun offering Hello Kitty Princess Kitty wedding packages.  Your ceremony can include "Hello Kitty" and "Dear Daniel" character escorts (best man and maid of honor) for the ceremony. How cool is that?

Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel (that's the name of Hello Kitty's piano playing; wildlife photographer boyfriend ) accompany the newly-weds at the chapel when they exchange rings and vows, escort them to the reception and of course, pose for the pictures. In some of the plans the marrying couple get stuffed Kitty's, Kitty bouquets, a Kitty ring pillow, etc, and have the option of dressing like Kitty and Daniel.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

The first-ever legally valid MTR Hello Kitty Dream Wedding took place February 2007, at the MTR Hong Kong Station.  Witnessed by relatives, friends and MTR passengers, bridegroom Jamie and his bride Horlick (who was dressed in the first-ever Hello Kitty wedding gown, jointly designed by the MTR Corporation, Sanrio and Wonderful Arts, (the bride's wedding gown was filled with Hello Kitty patterns made of Austrian crystals.) ) with their bridesmaids and groomsmen, boarded the first-ever MTR Hello Kitty Wedding Train and traveled to the MTR Hong Kong Station. The wedding train was specially designed for the occasion with images of Hello Kitty and Dear Daniel dressed as little cupids covering the train body and compartments. The interior was decorated with flowers and ribbons.Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Upon arriving at their destination, the couple was carried by a pair of rickshaws, amid cheers  from MTR passengers, towards the ceremonial venue at MTR Hong Kong Station. Led by the best man Dear Daniel and bridesmaid Hello Kitty, the couple proceeded to Hong Kong Station, which had been transformed to a wedding hall. Under the witness of the Civil Celebrant - Mr. Samuel Chan (solicitor), Hello Kitty, Dear Daniel, friends and relatives, (as well as MTR passengers) Jamie and Horlick were married.

The average price for a ceremony where all female guests continually exclaim "kawaii !!!" is 2M yen (40 people).  And if you can't get enough of the "Hello Kitty" Wedding; take a look at the video below :  )

And if you are really into pink, above is a sample of a Hello Kitty Wedding Dress (which would probably work well as a bridesmaid dress :  ).

Now, if you would prefer to go by way of the Disney Themed Gowns ....

Remember when you were a little girl and you pretended to be Cinderella in front of the mirror ... or perhaps at Halloween?  Well Disney is coming out with a line of Disney inspired gowns for grown-up girls.  According to the Orlando Sentinel, Disney “is using its stable of imaginary princesses as inspiration for a new line of wedding gowns.”

Disney and bridal designer Kirstie Kelly have developed a line of ethereal gowns that pay homage to Cinderella, Jasmine, Snow White, Ariel and Sleeping Beauty.

“They will be high-fashion and very modern,” said Paulette Cleghorn, president of Designer Loft Productions, a New York public-relations firm representing Kelly. “We are modernizing the princess concept. There is a difference between a girl who is inspired by Snow White and one who wants to dress like Snow White.”

Cleghorn said women who buy from Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding collection are definitely in the inspired category. The gowns, she said, will only vaguely resemble the costumes made famous in Walt Disney movies and storybooks.

Of course we have to show a few "Traditional" Gowns for the Bridesmaids:

RECIPE:  For the Child In All of Us

This is great for a shower, brunch or to  just make on a special occasion.

Banana Bread Pudding
Boma, Animal Kingdom Lodge
Submitted by: Barb A

12 croissants (or any bread with high butter content, such as brioche or challah)
1 quart milk
1 quart heavy cream
13 eggs
1 pound, 3 ounces granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
8 whole bananas, sliced
6 ounces butter, melted

  1. Heat oven to 320 F. Cut bread into cubes. Place them in a 10-inch round, 2-inch deep baking pan. Slice bananas. Mix with the bread.
  2. Prepare custard by mixing the eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, milk and heavy cream. Pour custard over bread, making sure bread is soaked. Brush top with melted butter. Place baking dish on a large jellyroll pan. Fill jellyroll pan with water to create a gentle water bath while the pudding bakes.
  3. Bake for 1 hour, 15 minutes. Top will be golden, and skewer inserted into the pudding should come out clean.   (source)

Old Superstitions To Make You Smile

  • To put on full bridal array prior to the wedding was considered unlucky. While this seems difficult to avoid in the fitting process, brides would put their dress on in sections, never all at once. Some would even leave part of the hem unsown so the dress could be finished on the wedding day.
  • Furthermore, the bride would not look at herself fully dressed in the wedding gown in a mirror. Even on the wedding day it was considered wise to leave off one part of the bridal attire, such as a glove, when the bride checked her appearance in the mirror. This way the bride never saw herself completely attired before the wedding.
  • Why not? Anticipation of this sort may cause something to happen that will prevent the marriage!
  • The bride and groom also traditionally avoid seeing each other on the morning of the wedding day. Perhaps this superstition derived from the period of arranged marriages. The father of the bride may have feared the groom would flee if his fiancé was not to his liking. So they postponed the "unveiling" until the actual ceremony.
  • On the way to the wedding, some sights or events were considered lucky for the bride and groom. Others were thought to be disastrous to their happiness. The bride was expected to exit her house out the front door and step out right foot first. If the sun shone on her or she saw a rainbow, good luck would ensue. Meeting a black cat, a chimney sweep, or an elephant (however unlikely) were also fortuitous.
  • Unlucky sights included observing a pig running across the road. The worst of all omens was to meet or even see a funeral procession. Death was also foretold if the horse (or the more contemporary car) refused to start.
