SOURCES

Haynes Parker: Information found in Stanley J. Heginbotham's "Ancestors and Descendants of Joshua and Maria Scott Parker": "Haynes Parker was born in 1784 or 1785 in New York. He was a minister, Baptist; later Church of Christ or Methodist. He was a founding member of the Tharp's Run Baptist Church, which was establishsed in Aug. of 1819. In 1826 he and a number of neighbors received permission to start a separate "regular" Baptist church very close to his land along the northern border of Jefferson Twp. He apparently became the minister of this church at the time of its founding. In 1832 it relocated 1.5 miles further north and took on the name Rush Creek Baptist Church. At some point between 1832 and 1848 the church was apparently transformed into a Church of Christ. His grandaughter, Rebecca Parker Cole, cites his denomination as "Church of Christ" as does an obituary of his son, David."
