Bahá'u'lláh's Declaration of His Mission
Ridvan, Festival of. The twelve day period commemorating Baha'u'llah's announcement of his claim and his departure from Baghdad in 1863, observed from sunset 20 April to sunset, 2 May. The first, ninth and twelfth days of Ridvan are major Baha'i holydays on which work should be suspended. Baha'i elections are normally held during Ridvan. The name derives from the Najibiyyih Garden in Baghdad where Baha'u'llah stayed during this period and to which he gave the name Ridvan (Paradise).
"My object is none
other than the betterment of the world
and the tranquility of its peoples."
-Bahá'u'lláh
Here's wishing you joy and laughter this Baha'i season.
Sending my love to you,
Shadi
Rejoice during the Festival of Ridván!
"By the righteousness of the Almighty! Every hidden thing hath been manifested through the power of the truth. All the favors of God have been sent down, as a token of His grace. The waters of everlasting life have, in their fullness, been proffered unto men. Every single cup hath been borne round by the hand of the Well-Beloved. Draw near, and tarry not, though it be for a short moment.
-Written by Bahá'u'lláh in the Garden of Ridván
"Now is the time for the lovers of God to raise high the banners of unity, to intone, in the assemblages of the world, the verses of friendship and love and to demonstrate to all that the grace of God is one. Thus will the tabernacles of holiness be upraised on the summits of the earth, gathering all peoples into the protective shadow of the Word of Oneness. This great bounty will dawn over the world at the time when the lovers of God shall arise to carry out His Teachings, and to scatter far and wide the fresh, sweet scents of universal love." - 'Abdu'l-Baha
Make thou an effort that the souls may become attracted with the light of the Kingdom and the shining heavenly lamp become ignited in thy house. - `Abdu'l-Bahá
The
Bahá'í Faith
The Bahá'í faith is the youngest of the world's independent religions. It was founded on the teachings of Bahá'u'lláh (1817 - 1892). His followers believe He was a messenger of God in the tradition of Abraham, Moses, Buddha, Christ, and Muhammad. The central teaching of the Bahá'í faith is that mankind, with God's help, should break down the barriers of race, class, and gender, uniting as one race in a global society. |
