Local Stikes Causing Problems
Presque Isle - On April 21 several businesses reported sudden minor strikes around the Presque Isle and
Caribou areas. The Presque Isle Airport was shocked when several employees inexplicably went on strike and
began picketing for better wages and benifits. Strangely enough, employees at several trucking and cab companies reported similar events. McCains also joins this list.
When asked about this recent surge in strikes, one union analyst stated: "I've never seen anything
like it. I had heard rumblings from the unions about this but thought it would blow over. Apparently their bosses thought the same. I guess we were al wrong."
There is no definite sign as to when these strikes will end. Most believe that the stikes will be short-lived
but no one can say when they will stop.
Fortunately these strikes are small and will put only a small dent in local busines. However, the suddeness
has taken everyone by surpries and may cause delays in certain industrial sectors. Union
leaders and business lawyers are currently in negotiations to settle the grievances as soon as possible.
