" Mr. and Mrs. Hanson? You may come in now," the doctor said with a smile. They left the boys in the waiting room. The little ones were at home with a friend. They followed the doctor into his office to listen to what he had to say.
"Well, it seems that Terry will be all right. She just had a miscarriage," the doctor began.
"I thought so," Diana said quietly," but why didn't she just tell us she was pregnant?"
"Well Mrs. Hanson, Terry told me that she was about to tell you tonight when she miscarried," the doctor explained," You obviously don't know the whole story. Terry and I had a talk after I made sure she was all right. It seems that her father abused her in more then one way,"
"You mean that her own father got her pregnant!," Walker gasped.
"I'm afraid so. The baby never had a chance of being carried out full term, Terry received too much abuse. I'm really amazed that she held it out this long." the doctor explained.
"Poor Terry! Will she eventually be able to have kids when she's older?," Diana asked.
"Yes, but she needs a long time to recover. You may see her now, I just needed to clear up a few things with you first."
"Thank you, doctor," Walker said, shaking the mans hand.
Terry was still in the examining room. She felt so ashamed. Why hadn't she listened to Isaac? She should have told them sooner. She looked up as the door opened and saw Walker and Diana. She was surprised to see no anger, just relief in their expressions. They both ran up to her and enfolded her in theirarms.
"Why didn't you tell us you were pregnant? We knew how your father treated you," Walker said, not angry, but concerned.
"I was afraid of what you would do," Terry said, " I know I should have told you, I'm so sorry! But I was also afraid that my dad would find out."
" It's all right now," Diana reassured the nearly hysterical Terry. Just then the doctor walked in.
"Well, sorry to tell you this Terry, but we're kicking you out," the doctor said with a smile," You are fine now, so you guys can go home."
They all said their thanks, then walked back into the waiting room. Terry smiled to herself when she saw Zac and Taylor arguing, while Isaac was just sitting there reading, seemingly oblivious to the whole thing.
" That's lame, Zac!," Taylor was saying.
"No, it'd be great! We'll call it, 'Back to Milwaukee and Albertane'," Zac said. He was really only teasing his brother, but it was still fun.
" Forget it! Wasn't the first one enough? Sure, I like the song, but not enough to write another like it! I mean, come on Zac!"
"What are you guys talking about?," Isaac asked, finally putting down his book.
" Zac wants us to write a sequel to 'Man From Milwaukee'. Can you believe it?," Taylor said.
Isaac grinned, knowing that Zac was only kidding.
"I don't know, Tay. I think that would be rather interesting,"Isaac teased.
"Aaagh! Ike, don't let him get to you!," Taylor said.
By this point, everyone, including Taylor, was laughing too hard to even notice that Terry was right behind them.
"Hi guys!," Terry announced, making them wait on the argument.
"Hey! How ya feeling," Zac asked.
"Pretty good, considering," Terry replied. She turned to Isaac, " I guess you're going to say 'I told you so', huh Ike?"
"Nah, like I said, it was you decision," he replied," At least you're fine now."
"Ike, you knew?," Taylor asked , surprised.
"Yeah. Sorry I didn't tell you guys," Isaac said.
"Well, like you said, it was her own business and decision,"Zac shrugged.
"Yeah, don't worry about it," Taylor agreed," We're just glad you're all right."
"Hey, guys?," Diana interjected," Can we go home now? I don't know about you, but I'm beat and I wouldn't mind getting a little sleep."
The next morning, Terry was brushing her hair when Walker and Diana came into the den.
"How are you feeling, Hon?," Diana asked.
"Much better, thanks," Terry smiled.
" Terry," Walker began, then hesitated," We want you to promise us that next time you have a problem that you need help with, you'll come tell us."
"We want to help you, but we need to be able to know what to help you with," Diana added.
" I understand," Terry said," I promise that the next time something comes up, I'll tell you."
