" This is our room," Isaac was saying as the three boys gave her a tour of the house, " and this is Mom and Dads room. Zoe, the baby, sleeps with them and Mackie is in with Jessie and Avery. Their room is this one. You'll be in the den. It's really cool."
Terry had a headache and just wanted to lie down. Why didn't they just take her to her room and leave her alone? What did she care about who slept where? It was none of her business.
She rolled her eyes at him. " Are you done with the ' grand tour' yet!?" She snapped.
Isaac gave her a surprised look.
" I just thought you might want to see the house so you'll find your way around better. I didn't mean to bore you or anything."Isaac said.
Terry blushed. Here they are, giving her a place to stay and she has to go and be a little bitch! Sure, she didn't even want to be here, she was being rude as it was, coming into their home, but now they had every right to put her out on the streets and these strangers would be better then a park bench. But to her surprise, Taylor and Zac looked really surprised and Isaac just looked hurt.
"I'm so sorry, I don't know what I was thinking," Terry stammered," I'm just really tired, from the plane ride, I guess, please, I didn't mean to be so rude. You're right, showing me the house will help me find my way around. Will you show me the rest?"
Isaac frowned for a moment, confused, then smiled and led the way to the den. After he, Taylor and Zac brought her things in, the three left her so she relax.
Terry was relieved. She really did want to be alone. It had been quite a day and she hadn't even been there long. She wanted to think and sort out her feelings. They must really hate me now! she was thinking. They probably can't wait for me to leave!
Actually, they were thinking just the opposite. Isaac had already forgotten about the way she had snapped at him. He just wanted to get to know her better. Taylor thought much the same thing and he was relieved that she didn't seem to be all that rude, despite what she had said to Isaac. He had been rambling anyway. But he also looked forward to being her friend. She's kinda cute, Zac was thinking. Not like Cindy Crawford, but she's okay. She didn't seem too friendly to him, but he had a feeling that would change.
" So guys, what do you think of Terry?," Zac asked.
"Well, she's been here for a grand total of thirty minutes!," Isaac pointed out, " Ask us later. We'll have a better idea after dinner."
"Sure Ike, I'll keep that in mind," Zac grinned. Then his expression grew serious. " Guys, did you notice how distant she seemed? She seems afraid to let us come near her. I went to give her a hug and she freaked."
" Maybe she's not the type to hug someone on the first meeting," Taylor pointed out, then he also grew serious. " Something terrible must have happened. I wonder what it could be?," he mused.
"Well it's way to soon to ask her," Isaac replied, " That's something you need to ask tactfully."
"What do you know about tact?," Zac teased."
" Anyway, we should make an effort to make her feel welcome," Isaac continued, ignoring Zac.
"We could show her all the cool things to do in Tulsa," Taylor suggested.
"Yeah! First stop, Laser Quest!," Zac yelled.
"Kids! Dinners ready!," Diana called.
" Come on guys. We'll tell her dinners ready and ask if she wants us to show her around Tulsa tomorrow," Taylor said.
They all ran into the den, but stopped short at what they saw. She was on her bed, facing away from them and obviously hadn't realized that they had come in. She had her knees pulled up to her chest and was rocking back and forth, her eyes glazed. But it was the phrase that she kept muttering, that had them shocked.
"They can't find out about it! What will I do if they find out? I can't let them know what I'm hiding, but I can't hide it very long! What am I going to do?"
