One of the things I, Griff, enjoy most in this world, is traditional Irish music and dance. And this is probably why I so love the worldfamous show Riverdance, which I was so lucky to enjoy LIVE at the Copenhagen Forum this year.
But the thing is, it's not just another show. To me it's more, much, much more! Whenever I hear the orchestra playing, see the dancers moving and fell the rythm of the music, I can't think of anything but that! Music, ryhtm and dance, music, rythm and dance!
The first time I ever saw Riverdance, was in 1994 in the Eurovision Song Contest in Dublin. Well, actually, I watched in on TV, but I caught on to it immediatly and totally forgot the rest of the contest. All I could think of was these few minutes of dance. I didn't know what it was, and neither did any of my friends. Noone had ever heard of it before, and I became quite desperate in my search for the roots of this catching phenomenon, Riverdance.
After a while, I forgot all about it, until one sweet (but rather cold) day in Norway. Right there, on a shelf in a video-store, was the cover of a video-tape titled: "Riverdance - the show" starring Michael Flatley (that name somehow rang a bell) Jean Butler and Maria Pages. I bought the tape, off course, and watched it over and over and over again! And I still do. Michael Flatley's energetic hard-shoe dance and Jean Butler's gracefilled movements never stop amazing me!
Michael Flatley truly is the Lord of the Dance in a way that his replacements, Colin Dunne and Breandán de Gallaí will never be, although they're fantastic dancers too. 'Cause they are. Everyone in Riverdance is. They're great, the show is great.
