Five Iron Frenzy's sophmore released is jokingly titled "Our Newest Album Ever!" and it is already making airwaves with "Suckerpunch" and "Most Likely to Succeed." This band has been doing exceptionally well though they have only released two album. But because of the popularity of ska right now, FIF is gaining many fans. This fun and zany band likes to joke around alot and is able to make a lot of people laugh but their new album shows their seriousness when it comes to writing great music.
Five Iron Frenzy's music has become known as anything but boring. This new album has no exception. With more of a pop sound, the band may gain a wider variety of listeners. Songs like "Second Season," and "Superpowers" have a more poppy sound. Don't get me wrong! These guys and girl can still rock! Songs like "Fistful of Sand" where drummer Andrew Verdecchio does a hardcore voice, and "Litmus," the band still holds its ska-core/punk title. All the songs on this album rock! Their lyrics are still great and funny at times. In "Where is Micah?" the band talks about how guitarist, Micah Ortega, seems to just disappear and sometimes they are unable to find him even when it may be five minutes to the show. "Blue Comb '78" is about when lead singer, Reese Roper's comb was thrown out the car window by his sister and how much it upset him at the age of 5. Yet songs like "Second Season," "Every New Day," "Fistful of Sand," and "Litmus" are more serious with a more important message about Christ. For instance, the song "Second Season" says "Time is winding down but only for this life/I want to be found enjoying the next life/I see leaves and they are starting to turn brown/They'll be green and growing whan the second season comes around." With more of the horn section and trombone player Dennis Culp doing the lead vocal, this song has a bit of a different sound to it, but it is an awesome song! Overall, I give this album a ten and two thumbs up!
