The Supertones in Victorville, CA

Concert Review

(Picture from the actual concert coming soon)

That's right, Victorville!!! I was so happy! The one and only O.C. Supertones came to a First Assembly of God church in Victorville, California on December 30, 1997. Along with the Supertones were Tiffany Heflin, two ska bands called The Rudies and The 11th Hour Band, and Thee Spivies. This night rocked!

First was pop singer Tiffany Heflin who is from the Victorville area. Then came the first fun happy-go-lucky ska band for the night, The Rudies from San Diego. This band's trombonist was constantly coming to the very front of the stage and waving his trombone out in the air and came close to hitting some audience members in the head. They played well and got the crowd moving with their song, "Keep on Moving." Then came Thee Spivies, a blast from the past band whose songs talk mostly about girls. They came out dressed in vests with white collars sticking out of the top and using 50's fashoned microphones. Before every song we'd here that famous line "This is about a very special girl," except of course before, "Johnny-Come-Lately." That one is about a guy named Johnny who is late for everything. Then came the second ska band of the night, The Eleventh Hour Band, who brought kids from the crowd on stage to dance and acted like they knew them.

Then was the long awaited band of the night, The Supertones!!! They came out in their suites and ties as usual and played ten great songs including "Supertones Strike Back," "The O.C. Supertones," "Louder Than the Mob," "Adonai," "Like No One Else," "Resolution," and other smash hits. The crowd was definitely moving while the band was rocking. As they never forget to do, The Supertones drummer and trumpet player did take time to minister to the audience and share what was going on in their lives. Trumpet player, Darren Mettler, shared an experience of missing out on going to Red Lobster because he had just had a whole bunch of junk at Taco Bell. He then compared this to how we sometimes put so much junk in our lives and miss out on the good stuff God has for us. Drummer, Jason Carson, then told us to make an effort to spend more time with Jesus every day. Then the band continued playing. They closed the night with that great song, "Supertones Strike Back." The band played a great show, got the crowd moving, and left them with the thought of making Jesus number one in their lives. Some of the kids their showed up with shirts with secular bands on them, probably not expecting to be ministered to so much by a band that can rock as good or better than their secular faves, and left with some questions about the Lord. You could tell that this band is being used by God to minister alot of people.
