"Some Kind of Zombie" by Audio Adrenaline

Review

"Some Kind of Zombie" is the latest from hot Christian rockers, Audio Adrenaline. Over recent years the band has aquired a new drummer, Ben Cissell, lost their original guitarist, Barry Blair, and songwriter/ keyboardist/rythmn guitarist, Bob Herdman, has finally cut his hair. Joking aside, this band has gone through a lot of changes since their last album and you may be wondering if this is the same Audio Adrenaline who made the hit album, "Bloom." Since Barry left, catchy guitar hooks have been harder for the band to make and their musical sound has slightly changed. However, I believe that this is a positive step into a fresh, new direction for the band. Of course, Barry will be missed and best wishes to him. Yet, this has not put an end to the brilliant song-making for the band.

This new album has a harder sound than AA's past albums, but only on some songs. Songs like "Original Species," "People Like Me," "Lighthouse," "Flicker," and "God-Shaped Hole" all share a mellower sound than the rest of the tracks. "Blitz," a song featuring the O.C. Supertones' horn section, is a catchy song with a very unique sound, different from any other song by Audio A. This song is about contending for the faith without giving up by saying "We all want to run the race to win/Never giving up or giving in/Coming at you like a blitz." Every song still holds powerful guitar riffs, even without Barry Blair. The lyrics of this album are about such topics as the worthlessness of material things, the day of Christ's return, being dead to sin, creation, equality, God's leading us, humbleness, our need for Christ, and all these pointing to the friendship we have with Christ as we hear about in the final song, "Superfriend." All in all, this is another great album from Audio Adrenaline who has not lost their capability of still being a great rock band despite what they have been through over the past couple of years.
