Sparkler is a madcap comedy about Melba May (Park Overall), a
trailer park princess living with her trucker husband Flint (Don
Harvey) in the desert town of Victorville,
Calafornia. She finds beauty in the dirt and grie of
the trailer park. When she catches her husband in
bed with her friend Hurricane (Shelia Tousey), she
moves in with her beautician mother, Sherri (Grace
Zabriskie), a bonafide home shopping addict, who
convinces Melba to call a psychic friend. The
psychis predicts that Melba will meet three kings.
This is where recent college graduates Trent(Jamie
Kennedy), Brad (Freddie Prinze, Jr.), and Joel
(Steven Petrarca), enter into the story. They are
heading to Las Vegas to win enough money to pay back rent when
their car breaks down in sleepy Victorville. Waiting for Triple A,
they meet Melba, who is convinced they are the "three kings" her
psychic friend predicted would change her life. So she leaves her
two-timing husband and sets out after the boys with notions of
stardom dancing in her head. Along the way, she tracks down an old
friend Dottie (Veronica Cartwright), now a bottom-of-the-barrel
stripper, who joins her on her quest. Back in
Victorville, Melba's husband Flint is
awakened by the Prize Patrol announcing that
Melba has won a million dollars. The only
catch:Melba must claim the money within 72
hours or all will be lost. By the time
everyone crosses paths in Darren Stein's
madcap comedy, a few tears have been shed, but Melba has gained her
independence and new friends along the way.
