Lafadias. What in the world is that ??

 Well, we are a group of 13 people who spent some amazing time together in college. The college was REC Jalandhar, India , one of India's premier Engineering Schools and the time was  August 94 to June 98. 

How did we get together and what did we do when we were together ??

It all started in the hot, sweltering month of August 94 when we came from all over the country to fulfill our dreams and ambitions of becoming an Engineer in one of the best Engineering schools of the country. Most of us were new to the wonderful and initially scary concept called Hostels. Ragging was another demon that troubled and in fact, bound us all together. Its crazy what good things can fear do to us sometimes.  Well , one thing led to another , and  before we knew we were in the 2nd year. It was then we realized how close we were and decided to bind together as a group. All through the 3rd and 4th years , we stayed in the same block and with time, the affinity grew into a strong bond which we will remember all our lives.  We had great sessions of Cards which lasted all nights and Group Discussions which continued till 4 AM. Birthdays were awaited anxiously and the dance parties used to go on till each one of us cud go on no more . Fruit Sessions, always organized by Vikas were the High Times of our evenings. All 13 wud cram into a  room ,often on top of each other and over WaterMelons and Mangoes wud discuss topics ranging from Who wud win the next American Presidential Elections  to  Who wud win the sexy new chick from Delhi. Also had great fun on our occasional trips and treks to great mountain vacation places like Dalhousie, Dharamshaala, McLeodGanj, Satowari, VaishnoDevi, Patnitop,etc. All in all , a wonderful time whose memories we will cherish all our life.

Nitin : Lets go and have Lunch. Also did u know that Jimmy Carter once went to Maihar ?? Its a very famous place. Its strange u haven't heard of it.

Pankaj : Sorry but I got to leave , have to study for my GRE, Bye. 

Srivatsan : Wanna come to the Computer Lab ?? After that we will go to the SPIC-MACAY Meeting and then the Library after that. 

Rohit : (Its Monday and the time is around 12:30- 1 PM ) Whoever wants some great home food, just come in my room  and I am going home this weekend again.

Vinay S : Am going to the Girls Hostel to take some notes which I might have missed in class. 

Vinay M : I have too much to read and so less time. I am going to the Library. What ?? Its 45 Degrees C and the fans are not working.  Doesn't matter, I am going there to study and not feel cool. 

Dilpreet: Hey , I am going to IIT Delhi next week and REC Hamirpur the next after that for their College Festivals. Nitin, lets rehearse for the skit we have to perform.

Sharad : Salil just told me that a new Ayn Rand book is doing the rounds of this Block. I am next in the queue after whoever is reading now. And is the Internet working in the Computer Lab ?? Also , rohit, let me know when u finish the Assignment that the Microprocessor prof gave us. Want to have a look (u know what having a look means , right ? ) while I complete Forsyth's The Icon.

Anurag : M*****F*****. There's a great babe in the junior batch. Anyone else wanna play Bridge ? Salil , Pushpak and me are looking for a 4th guy. 

Praveen : (while combing  his hair) Don't worry , yaar. Ho Jaayega.

Sandeep : (twisting his fingers like Mr.Vajpayee does) Hmmm. This is a solid situation . Will have to call my juniors to discuss it further.

Vikas : Hey, anyone here wants to discuss or Organize anything ?? Also , Nitin , last time (which was 3 weeks and 4 days ago)  u got one piece of mango more than the others , So this time u r getting one less. And Pankaj, u took the Biggest part last time , this time u get the Smallest. Vinay is sad these days, so he gets one piece extra.  

Bhargav : Hey, y did u wake me up so early. Its just 11:30 AM. I just slept at 6 in the morning.

The guy who had seen-it-all .Right from The High courts of Chandigarh to the deepest valleys of Baddi .Fitted the Tall, Dark and Handsome slot as perfect as could be ,this guy had a nice rapport with some beautiful dames of the Textile Department . We really envied u ,buddy . Perfect Managerial Stuff . Wonderful Athelete and a Studious Person .But how come, Bhargav , Mehndi always manage to beat u at Kushti in the 2nd year . Presently with Vardhman as Textile Engineer.Err..That's a bit outdated . He's now doing what he always wanted to do and at the place he loved . MBA at Puttaparthi . Way to go ,Bhargav

Dilpreet Singh Sehgal

The Clown

No Drama ,No skit and no comedy program in our college was complete without his presence. This guy taught us how to stay jolly at all times ,no matter how gloomy the scene. An actor of class , he could convince anybody with anything with his acting power. We used to wait for The Papayas which he used to bring from his garden at his house in Dehradoon. Works in Pune as a Software Engineer.

Mr.Versatile

The I just love 3 times of the day .Breakfast Time ,Lunch Time And Dinner Time . This was the motto of the guy from Maihar.Extremely fond of singing Dev Anand songs and that too on top of his voice ,no matter the place and the time and emulating him. He was also a great mimic which we realised quite late . Sanjeev Kumar being his fav. No birthday bash was ever complete without this guy's staring eyes on the Cake . Also called himself the "Bobby Deol " of Maihar Clan. If he was the smartest guy in Maihar , we could imagine the girls condition in Maihar, we used to tell him, but really a smart and dashing personality. Just completed his M.Tech in Bio-Medical Instrumentation from Jadavpur University ,Calcutta . The Poor Bengalis are blaiming the sudden shortage in Foodgrains this year to the weather . If only they would knew. Now works in BAYER where they have given him a Laptop that never works ; )

The unofficial Chairman of UBI  (Unfortunately Born in India) Group in the College. 

This person had just one dream ,right from day one since we noticed him .The U S of A . Another dream he had ,had something to do with some IAS officer's kin .Never dreamt of small thing ,did you ? Known as Khaan Saab ,he was the MahaKanjoos of our group (yeah,he even beat me) but nobody can blame a Sindhi for being Kanjoos .Never one to fulfill any of his promises ,specially those which involved anything to with money. Completed his MS from North Dakota University and is now working in Minnesota. And according to fresh reports ,has brought a "new" Second-hand Bike .Whatever that means .

The ShahRukh of 1994 Batch

This was a guy who brought all the latest fads and fashions of DU and JNU in our college . Right from his designer Divya Shakti Commander Vest down to his Adidas sneakers, this was a guy who lived to dress . Self-Proclaimed Cricketer of High Class . But Praveen ,frankly, we never saw u make double digit runs in any match u played for the college . Some pitch problem ,maybe . Presently with Satyam Computers,Hyderabad as Software Engineer . BREAKING NEWS :He has left Satyam for good and Enpro in Delhi. Our Divya Commander .

I remember no occasion and i repeat no occasions when someone was down with illness and this guy was not around ,helping him with his medical kit and jargons . He was also our Chief Provisions-In-Charge. No matter what the time ,what the day ,if you were ever hungry ,you knew whom to go to. Had some strange fascination with some bikes and scooters in the final year. First one to get married among us. Now he and Bhabhiji are in LA.

The Politician

No news of this guy. Kahan ho yaar tum ? Next time we hear from him ,he will be the CM of Maharashtra. And hey, before i forget , there's some Bad news for u buddy . She has married somebody else , yaar . But don't u worry . There's better stuff in store for you. Latest Reports say he is working with Raymond , the textile Biggie in Nagpur. Way to go, Sandeep.

Here was a guy whose motto was "Hard Work never killed anyone ,But i am not taking any chances" . Never to lift a book till the 11th hour ,he himself was surprised how he managed to pass in the semester exams .A great admirer of all sort of novels ,he could be sighted even in the exam days with a Fredrick Forsyth novel in his hands. He was the person who was the most surprised on the day he was selected in SCSL . A die-hard pessimist who always thought that Murphy was an optimist. Presently with Satyam Computer Services Ltd. ,Bangalore as Software Engineer . God Bless the Chairman of the Company.

Srivatsan Raghavan

The Scientist.

Presently teaching the Professors of IIT Delhi a point or two while doing his M.Tech in Computer Science . Mr. Fresher of our batch ,he was a guy which everybody right from a newcomer in the 1st year till the Principal of our college knew and respected . His extra sleek computer jargon even amazed the HOD of the Computer Dept, at times . The Tamil goodies that he used to bring from ND , never used to last more than a day . For that , Srivats , we are never gonna forgive u. Plays the violin wonderfully. BREAKING NEWS : He's landed up a job with Hughes Software for an undisclosed amount of salary . No surprise Hughes share prices are soaring .

We won't ever forget the fruit festival we used to have , thanks to this guy in the 3rd and the 4th year. Give him anything to organize and he couldn't be happier . A Master Planner , he was also a Bond in solving all types of puzzles no matter how much effort they required . We won't ever forget the GDs we used to have in his room in the 3rd year . What do u say Vikas, should be the criteria of getting into an IIT ? Remember the marathon 5-hour GD session in Vinay M's room . Presently making some cool bucks working in Whirlpool, Ghaziabad . And rumours are strife that u have suddenly become an avid fan of potatoes , Vikas .Is it true?

Successor to Gandhiji ,here was a guy who stood on his principles no matter what the conditions . If there was any person who devalued the position of Alwar from a town to a village (Sharma, please take note ) ,it was this guy . Very far from the small necessities of life ,this guy when sat down to work would only get up when either the book would get over or it was time for going to college (ie the next day) .One hot hot afternoon in May (close to 48-50 Degree C) ,somebody went to his room and saw that he hadn't switched on the fan .When asked why ,the answer came "Oh, i din't know that the fan was off and didn't feel the heat while studying " . And moreover he wouldn't be wasting time over going to the switchboard and switching on the fan and coming back to his chair. And what about your "Fractured Leg" in the 3rd year ,buddy ? How is it now ? This guy had what we call in Hindi "Insaaniyat" . Never staying behind in helping anybody no matter what the situation and never mind the consequences .Now Pursuing his MS in Clemson University , he keeps getting those expereinces, like the one when he had his hands full .Right Vinay ?? Au Revoir ,friend.

Here was a person who showed us what was hard work and that finally it always paid . His rapport with the Chemical engg. Faculty was well known all over the college . and his mysterious story in the Final year kept him a mystery for most of the batch mates .An ambitios guy with lots of aspirations and a zeal to make all his dreams come true . We remember your Mungfalis ,Vinay and the long nights that we spent in ur's ,Mehndi's and Kala Bacchaa(Bhargav lal)'s Super Deluxe Luxury AC room in the 2nd year along with my Antique radio which Mehndi used to turn off and Bhargav used to run to turn it on . Presently slogging it out with IPCL ,Bharuch in some God-damned Gas Cracker Project. But he's earning a Cool Buck and saving too . All the Best, Sharmaji .And when are u marrying ?? Do it fast,yaar .I am waiting for a mauka to come to Alwar once again. LATEST NEWS : Hes got engaged . Congrats, buddy.
