This ep starts out with Joxer at the casino. Joxer has won a total of 100 dinars. Titus, the owner of the gaming house, wants Joxer to play double or nothing with him because he hates to lose. Joxr says that woulld be nice, but, he won this for friends. Joxer leaves the table and Titus sends his son Leoh after him along with some guards. In the marketplace Joxer meets the two con men, Rafe and Eldus. They see that Joxer is somewhat of an idiot. They con him out of all his money, sell him fools gold, and Eldus steals his sword. Joxer leaves, while examining the gold he says, suckers. Rafe: How long do you think till he finds out? Eldus" What? That you sold him fools gold? Rafe: No, that you stole his sword. Eldus pulls up the sword. Leoh and the guards follow Joxer who is now unarmed. The next scene shows Gabrielle on Argo and Xena leading Argo. Gabrielle has another sprained ankle. Xena and Gabrielle are out to meet Joxer. Xena says that it's not like him to be late. Gabrielle says "What do you want to bet that he stopped to watch the grass grow, or the paint grow and he totally forgot. Believe me I know Joxer almost as well as I know you." Xena says," Oh, and how well is that?" Gabrielle says "Well enough to know what you're thinking most of the time."Gabrielle can tell correctly the three times that she tries. Suddenly Xena hears a noise. It is the men beating up poor Joxer for the money. Xena stops Leo with her whip and they run off. Gabrielle holds Joxer and,as Xena is checking if he's alive, asks, is he ... Xena says that if they treat him and get him to someplace safe safe he stands a chance. Xena looks away and says, "Thats more than I can say for the men who did this to him" The next scene shows Rafe and Eldon at the tavern betting. Xena come and hits Rafe's head on the table and asks where he got that sword, they lie about it. Xena says it belongs to a friend of hers who was beaten nearly to death. Xena says "Fill in the holes or I start makin' 'em" She starte playing with her dagger ang gets faster, Eldus, worried that she really will hurt Rafe's fingers talks. He says that they got it of of an easy tartget but never touched him, that sounded more like Titus' style or his son Leoh's. Xena asks who are they? They explain who and that Joxer won big there. That Titus would rather die than lose or have someone else lose, and chances are they do. Xena convinces Rafe and Eldus to come with her. Eldus and Rafe bet about Xena kissung Rafe, Eldus bets against Rafe. Titus is mad at Leoh that the money is lost and gone and that Joxer is alive. He is also mad that Leoh ran. Joxer and Gabrielle are at the temle of the Acolytes. She iss nursing Joxer. Gabrielle is telling him not to leave them {her and Xena} because they car about him and he is like family. Xena come in with Rafe and Eldus. Gabrielle asks if these are the two men that conned Joxer. Xena and Gabrielle knew that they never touched Joxer. They want to leave. Xena says that she has a plan that will take Titus for all his worth and she will cut them in for half. Joxer starts to have a fit, Xena is so tender with Joxer. Xena and Gabrielle go to get some things for Joxer. Rafe gets a blanket for Joxer and tucks it in around, probably because he feels bad. When Xena and Rafe are at the tavern she is betting with the dice and is really good Rafe says "nice, you've done this before". Xena says"It's been awhile." Rafe says "Too bad, a waste of talent." Xena say "I have many skills that I usually use against people like you. He say that he bets the feeling that she doesn't like him very much. Xena says "You're wrong, I don't like you at all." She throws the dice again. Rafe tries to flatter her. She says she wants table odds, so she can rattle Titus' cage a bit. Xena says she believes it's because of the bet. At the casino Rafe helps Xena cheat. The dealler sends a guard to Titus. The guard asks for a new set of dice because Xena is winning all the time. Eldus makes a distraction for the guards afet Titus has left his office so that Gabrielle can sneak in. At the gaming table Titus says that Xena is cheating because no one is that good. In the next scene Titus is in his office because heard a crash that Gabrielle made. He knows that Gabrielle is there and says to come out or die. Xenacome in and says down boys. She says that she is measuring for Xena's new office. Titus asks who is she. Xena says that she is the woman who is going to own everything there. She throws a ruby that is valuable to Titus so that he will let go of Gabrielle because he has a daggar to her throat. Xena and Gab fight the guards.{Gabrielle still has a sprain.} Xena is holding Titus up by his chin and says: "By the gods it would be so easy just to.." Gabrielle interupts by saying Xena. Xena says that death is too good for scum like him and she will take him down bit by bit. Outside Gab asked if the crash was loud enough. Phase one and two are done so Xena is telling Gabrielle that she is going to work with Eldon and Xena with Rafe. Gabrielle thinks that Xena likes Rafe. When Xena and Rafe put there costumes on Xena says to Rafe, pointing at a hat "Gimme that hat" Rafe says "What do you say?" Xena says "Or else?" Rafe says "Your welcome." The next scene shows Gabrielle and Joxer in the temlpe. Joxer is trying to get up to go after Titus. Gabrielle says "What are you going to do, bleed on them?" She tell Joxer not to worry that she and Xena will take care of them. In the gaming house Titus has found out that it is Xena that Leoh ran away from. Titus says to find Joxer so that they will have a card to play against Xena. Titus wants Leoh to hide the ruby. Gabrielle meets Leoh in the temple cause Joxer is asleep.Gabrielle and Eldus follow Leoh. Xena knew he was going to do this so they stage a fight. Gabrielle and Eldus pretend to be a rich married coulpe. Rafe pretends to be a thief and takes there money. Xena, in disquise throws a basket of flowers at Rafe who trips and Xena catches the money. Leoh, who sees this says he'll go after the doctor. Xena says to give him her valuables so she caan hide them so the thief can't get them. He asks why. Xena says because they are easier to hide. She hides the pouch. When she takes it out to give to Leoh it is a phoney. Now they have the ruby. Everyone returns to the temple. They think that Joxer is asleep. Xena starts to panic, she pulls back the covers, Joxer is gone. Rafe says that is Titus has Joxer they are finished. Xena says "So is Joxer." Eldus comes in seeing that Joxer is gone he says that Xena and Gabrielle are ametuers. That he and Rafe are the best in the business. Rafe convinces Eldus to stay. Rafe and Eldus decide to look for Joxer at the gamehouse. Xena and Gab decide to go to the woods. Xena and Rafe Good luck and Xena and Gabrielle leave. Before they leave Rafe says that the bets off. Eldus convinces him to keep it on. In the woods after Xena says something Gabrielle says that she is starting to talk like Rafe. Gabrielle doesn't like Rafe anymore because of the bet Eldus told her about. Xena sees the guys with Joxer. She runs down the hill with Gabrielle on Argo after her. Xena stops the bad guys. Gabrielle gets of Argo and unties poor Joxer. Later Rafe talks about the benifits of staying detached while Xena talks about the benefits of caring. Titus wants to play cards against Xena because she has Leoh and the ruby. Eldus says that if Rafe and Xena work together they will be unbeatable without a little inside help. In the morning Xena and Titus meet at gamehouse. Xena is wearing ruby and had Leoh. Xena says that she has something he wants back. Titus says yes, the ruby is very valuable. Gabrielle says she meant Leoh. Titus say oh, did she? Xena and Titus are going to play cards. If Titus wins he gets his son and ruby back. Titus asks what will happen if he loses. Xena says Leoh will die. She says this because she wants Titus to play. She threatens to kill Leoh if he does not play. Titus says she is bluffing. Rafe gets mad at Eldus for changing sides. Eldus stabs Rafe and he pretends to die. Titus makes Xena stay even though she wants to honour Rafe. They start there poker game. Titus thinks he has won. But Xena has four aces. Titus grabs the ruby and pushes the table over. There is a fight. At the beginning Titus has a daggar at Gabrielles throat. He says to Xena "Who's going to stop me, you?" Xena, looking past him says "No. Him." Rafe is alive and helps Gabriell, Xena and Eldus stop Titus' guards. Eldus only pretended to change sides. In the end Eldus thinks that Rafe won the kissing bet, but Rafe kissed Xena before he pretended to die instead of the other way around. Eldus does not believe him. Rafe puts the money in the offering plate. Before this, Joxer was, as usual confused about what happened. Xena says she will explain on the road.
