Crafty Lady's Corner

Have a Heart

Hello and welcome to my page dedicated to helping others. If you or someone you know is involved in a good cause effort please email me the details. I would like to list as many projects as I can. If you have a seasonal project such as Christmas or Back to School projects please send me the info including the time periods when it is active & I will do my best to have the information available during the times it needs to be active.

SunShine Quilt Project

MISSION STATEMENT:

The primary purpose of the Sunshine Quilt Project is to provide sturdy, useful quilts to those in need. The quilts will be made according to outlined guidelines. The finished quilts will then be donated to well-established, international organizations for distribution as they deem appropriate. In this way, all donors share the warmth and caring, both physical and emotional, to those in need across the world.

COMPLETED QUILT GUIDELINES: Completed quilts do not require 100% cotton fabrics. Battings may be cotton or polyester or blend. We ask that no batting be thicker/heavier than 4 oz. These quilts will be used all over the world, perhaps in warm climates. Thinner batts would be appreciated. Quilts may range in size from 24" x 24" (infants, no batting, flannel backings), up to 42" x 76" maximum. The infant size quilts are a common request by hospitals for newborns through 1 year. Tops may be pieced or whole cloth cheater panels with or without borders. Quilts should be machine quilted or tied (i.e. embroidery floss or crochet cotton). For infant quilts, please make sure that all ties are on the top of the quilt. Most likely the flannel side will be placed against delicate skin. Please no embellishments. These quilts must be able to be used and laundered repeatedly. If you use the "birthing" method to complete your quilt, please hand or machine close the birth opening and top stitch 1/4 - 1/2" around edges to make a false binding. This will secure the batting to the edges. If you are using a binding, please make sure it is very secure and double thickness.
