Matt's True Story
I was hunting with my dad and little brother on the first day of the 97-98 season. We were hunting in Franklin county, Mississippi. My dad sent me to my stand while he took my little brother with him. I proceeded to find a nice spot to set up on a logging road that we had walked in on. I decided to stand over a large draw in the woods not far from the logging road. As I was making myself comfortable I heard something moving up the hill in front of me. As I looked in the general direction I saw what seemed to be a nice buck. Along with this buck was a doe. As I raised my 20 guage he just stood and stared at me. I fired and he bolted to my left. I fired a second time but felt that the first shot had done the trick. Shortly therafter my dad and little brother came walking to see if everything was alright. I was so excited it was difficult to explain to my dad what exactly had happened. I pointed in the direction the buck had taken to my dad who proceeded to locate a blood trail. After locating a nice blood trail we found the buck in the bottom of a tight gully. This nice buck turned out to be a 8-pointer with a 14 inch inside spread. The rack stood approximately 17 inches high. The buck weighed in at 225 lbs. Even though this will not make the record books it will always be a record to me since this was my first buck.
Sincerely,
Matthew Scott Till
