Chastain's in the 1840 Alabama Census

1840 DeKalb County, AL Census

R. CHASTEEN, Page 172, no Township listed
1 male under age 5 (probably son Miles)
1 male age 5-10 (probably son William)
1 male age 20-30 (Rainey)
1 female under age 5 (probably dau. Mary)
1 female age 30-40 (wife Eleanor 'Nellie')

The census index shows him as B. Chasteen on p. 171, but I see the B. as an R. and I found him on p. 172, not p. 171.
I believe this is Rainey Chastain(5) son of Wm.(4) and Mary West [Abraham(3), Pierre Jr.(2), Pierre(1)]. Rainey was born c. 1811 in Greenville Co., SC and died after 1860. He married Nellie Gist (Nellie is probably a nickname for Eleanor?).
Nellie Gist was b. c. 1804 in KY and probably died between the 1850-1860 censuses. Rainey can also be found on the following censuses:
1850 DeKalb Co., AL p. 327B
1860 Whitfield Co., GA p. 644

1840 Jackson County, AL Census

William CHASTIAN, Page 67, Unknown Township
1 male age 5-10 (probably son John D.)
1 male age 30-40 (William)
2 females age under 5 (probably daus. Mary and Jerusha)
2 females age 10-15 (probably daus. Sarah and Levina)
1 female age 30-40 (wife Margaret)

I believe this is William Chastain(4) son of Rev. John(3)and Mary (Robinson) Chastain [Pierre Jr.(2), Pierre(1)].
William was b. 7 Aug. 1801 in Pendleton Dist., SC and d. between 1870-1875. He m. 19 Oct. 1825 in Habersham Co., GA to Margaret Dobbs, dau. of David and Margaret. She was b. 18 Dec. 1807 in TN and d. 14 Nov. 1875.
William can also be found on the following censuses:
1830 Rutherford Co., TN p. 299
1850 Madison Co., AL p. 350B
1860 Madison Co., AL p. 260-1
1870 Massac Co., IL p. 300A-B

There seem to be quite a few Chastang's and variant spellings, if anyone knows whether they are connected to the Chastain's let me know and I will put them here.
