chapter four
" Hey guys." Rayna said as she took her usual seat in the cafeteria.
" Hey," everybody chorused.
" Where's Rob?" she asked casually.
" Not here." Jake grinned at her.
" Obviously." She opened her sandwich and took a bite, ignoring the grins she was getting from Jake, Sam, and Aubrey. " Leave me alone. I just have to ask him a question."
" What time's your gig tonight?" Drew asked the girls.
" 8." they all said at once. They had a band that played Friday nights at a local club. Rayna played bass guitar, Sam played drums, and Aubrey played guitar. They all took turns on vocals, since nobody really liked to sing.
" Cool. I'll invite Rob," he said, laughing.
Rayna sighed, only two more periods…
Later that night, Rayna sat on the edge of the small stage they were playing on, tuning her guitar. She loved her bass guitar. It was a black Fender Jazz Bass, and she was very protective of it. Sam was on the stage in that back setting up her drum set. Aubrey was holding her blue Fender Strat, and yelling at Drew because he had picked it up to move it. Rayna laughed at she watched them. The door on the side of the club squeaked, and in cam Rob, with Jake behind him.
Rob opened the door to the club and went inside with Jake. He saw Rayna playing her bass, and waved to her. She waved back, but continued playing softly. He looked around, taking everything in. It was a small club, with a stage in front, and round tables scattered around the floor. There was a bar tucked in the corner, and music was playing. They had gotten there early to help the girls set up.
" Let's practice!" Aubrey yelled. Rayna and Sam moved to their places. They started to play the song 'Smack' by 3 Doors Down. Rob smiled. They were good. Jake grabbed his arm, pulling him to a table they sat down.
" Does Rayna sing at all?" Rob asked.
" Sometimes. She and Sam really don't like to. Rayna writes most of the lyrics, and they all write the music." Rob nodded and listened. They played a few more songs, then stopped to eat the food that Erika had arrived with a few minutes before. People started to arrive, filling up the club quickly. Rob reconinized a bunch of people from school sitting near the back. A bunch of people came over to their table to talk to Jake, Erika, and Drew, but Rob didn't reconignize any of them.
The girls started to play at 8, using one of their own songs to start. They finished their set to a burst of cheers. They all went home tired, but pleased.
